It's not exactly breaking news that Arizona Cardinals quarterback Kevin Kolb's situation with the team is a little tenuous.

Though clearly the team's best option at the position last season, his production over two years with the team does not exactly warrant the high salary he is scheduled to make.

The 28-year-old has appeared in just 15 of a possible 32 games over the last two seasons. Sure, he's thrown for 17 touchdowns and been picked off just 11 times, but the Cardinals certainly expected more when they traded for the QB and signed him to a contract extension.

Now with a new coaching staff in charge, it's possible Kolb's time with the team has come to an end.

According to CBSSports NFL insider Jason LaCanfora,, Kolb is one of many players who could be in line to become a "cap casualty" over the next couple months.

Kevin Kolb, Cardinals ($9 million salary, plus $2 million roster bonus): He won't make that kind of money to stay, and I can't imagine Kolb getting the roster bonus, though if he's willing to settle for more like $5 million there could still be an opportunity for him in Arizona.

Bruce Arians, the new coach, has previously said he believes Kolb can be a good QB if given time to throw, so it stands to reason he's probably not anxious to cut ties with the former Eagle.

However, the move -- if it's made -- may have more to do with what Kolb is making off the field rather than how he's performing on it.

And for what it's worth, LaCanfora also notes QBs Michael Vick, Carson Palmer, Alex Smith, Matt Cassel, Matt Hasselbeck and Matt Flynn could also find themselves on the chopping block, so the Cardinals may have some options to replace Kolb if necessary.

    Cuts
I honestly dont think any of the QBs mentioned are a better possibility than Kolb. he has experience with the team and deserves a chance to succeed with an at least average line. that said, if he wont restructure for a reasonable amount, i dont think we can afford to keep him. too many other needs to have that much tied to him. he wont get that much on the open market. Hasselbeck may be the one exception - but thats just a bandaid.

    Ryan Fitzpatrick?
He's gotten a bad rap and never had good receivers and he would be coming home. Also the Eagles are looking like they will keep Vick and have signed Dennis Dixon, so Foles may be the odd man out and I would definitely take him. We need to find two QB's who really want to battle and succeed. Also David Gerrard will be available and he could also be productive. If we had an offence that could have scored 17 to 20 points a game we may have been playing in the Super Bowl.

If that's true, the Cards should absolutely try to land Nick Foles. Kid was very accurate at Arizona, and possesses good size (6'4") to be a starting QB. I'd stay away from most QBs in this year's draft. There are far too many other players at other positions with much higher upside. I get that we need a QB, but Alex Smith and Carson Palmer will be available, if they decide against Kolb. I'm not saying I like either of those two to lead us to a Superbowl, but I think they're better than what's in the draft. Regardless, draft an offensive line with the first few picks.

    Foles?
If Kelly is wanting to take his Oregon offense (or some flavor of it) to the NFL with the Eagles, Vick and Dixon are better candidates than Foles so yeah, he could be available. Being an ASU guy it would pain me to see a former Wilbur-ite with the Cards but he really has a lot of potential and I could overlook his collegiate background for winning games here.

    QB?
Bottom line is that the Cardinals will have to develope a QB, although Alex Smith will be available dont think he's coming to Arizona (better offers for him). Arians possibly wants a younger QB so that he can develope to his style of offense. Kolb is a short pass, quick release, not a pocket QB. However Skelton is intresting a big QB, strong arm needs improvement in accuracy. Arians likes big QB's (Rolthlisberger, Luck).

    QBII?
Keep in mind that Whisenhunt did a poor job in developing both QB's. no run support, did not improve the OL. It will go to a QB competition in 2013. who are the candidates will see? Arians has or will see fotage on Kolb and Skelton. Skelton played ok in 2011 and Kolb in 2012. However I think Skelton fits Arians style down field throws, some accuracy, and poise in the pocket is the key.

Is this fitzismyhero with a new name!? I haven't seen anyone push for Skelton. Honestly I think Arians biggest mistake will be to open training camp with a qb competition involving Skelton and kolb

to Skebow! Skelton hasn't improved & I don't see him staying around. I can honestly see Hoyer as the only guy coming back or remaining on this team going into T.C. this upcoming season.

    Skelton will start
I agree with Shava: Skelton is the most viable option on our roster. He has all the physical skills; his footwork is the issue. The Cards will return to fundamentals: improve line-blocking technique=viable run game=play action pass=time to go through progression of receivers=scoring. Watch for up-tempo, pre-snap alignment, read defense, change play call to "take what the defense gives you," the use of two tight end sets for flexibility, and moving the pocket to buy time. Bennie Wells WILL learn to pass block or will be traded.
