listen Listen: Big Red Report - Bruce Arians
Cards Head Coach Bruce Arians talks about Drew Stanton and the inability to talk to his players

Phoenix is the epicenter of the football world this week.

With the NFL Owners Meetings going on at The Arizona Biltmore, anybody who's anybody in the league is in the Valley of the Sun.

New Arizona Cardinals head coach Bruce Arians sat down with the man he worked for last season, Indianapolis Colts head coach Chuck Pagano, in an interview with NFL Network.

And Arians answered the most pressing question about his team...what's going on with the quarterback position?

"We've got a very capable one in Drew Stanton we just happened to steal away from Chuck," Arians said. "Drew knows the offense, he's more than capable of doing it.

"If he's our guy, I'm comfortable."

Stanton signed a three-year deal with the Cardinals last week after spending a season in Indianapolis as Andrew Luck's backup. In five NFL seasons, Stanton has thrown for 1,158 yards and five touchdowns in 13 games.

But Arians didn't stop there in his assessment of his team.

"I really like the direction we're heading, we've got a great nucleus -- especially defensively, and I don't think our offensive line is nearly in the dire straits everybody thinks they are."

Of course, only time will tell, but Arians is spreading optimism about the Cardinals new-look roster moving forward.

    We shall see
Maybe Stanton just needs his moment in the sun to shine. Draft a QB in rd 2 or 3, and let Stanton, Hoyer and the draft pick fight it out for the starting job. Hopefully one will emerge as a viable option.

If he's our guy? This does not sound like the vote of confidence some are attempting to make it out to be. Arians isn't stupid. He knows as well as anybody that he needs a very good QB if he intends on keeping his job for any length of time. He will not be staking his head coaching career on Drew freaking Stanton. Stanton is the insurance plan, not THE plan at QB. The Cardinals will be drafting one early.

I agree .......... I'm beginning to wonder if BA's plan is to draft a QB in the 1st round. He always states that our o-line isn't as bad as everyone thinks and he always puts an IF in front of Stanton.

    Try it
There isn't a QB worth drafting in the 2nd or 3rd rounds this year who could possibly be a Russell Wilson. So don't waste the draft pick on a QB. The 49ers and Seahawks are fighting for the division, so spend this draft building the core of the team -- O line, linebackers, defensive backs -- and go for a QB next year if Stanton and Hoyer don't cut it. It would hurt the Cards more this year to draft a QB and NOT get more help on the O line. Use this draft to solidify the O line, get those guys experience this year, and if necessary go for a QB next year when the selection will be better.
