Bittersweet day in Skelton household

Aug 31, 2012, 10:39 PM | Updated: 11:43 pm

On a day when John Skelton is named the starting quarterback for the Arizona Cardinals, the Skelton family cannot help but be disappointed about the other news of the day.

Skelton‘s younger brother and tight end, Steve, did not make the final 53-man roster.

“It’s kind of bittersweet for him, but I think for the family overall everyone is real excited,” Skelton said
According to Skelton, Steve was cut last year too, but this time it seems different.

“He went through it last year, he was kind of down last year about it,” Skelton said. “But this year he made plays and he put some good film out there.”

Steve had solid numbers in the preseason, hauling in 10 catches for a total of 88 yards.

Skelton said that the coaches told his younger brother that the practice squad was a “real possibility.”

“Now it is just the waiting game for him,” Skelton said. “He (Steve) is excited.”
