The Arizona Cardinals are adding a familiar face.
Michael Gehlken of UTSASanDiego.com was the first to report the team has signed former Arizona State running back Marion Grice to a two-year contract.
To make room for Grice, the Cardinals released punter Drew Butler.
Grice played two seasons for the Sun Devils, rushing for 1,675 yards and 25 touchdowns while also catching 91 passes for 860 yards and another 14 scores.
The 6-foot-0, 208-pound back was a sixth round pick of the Chargers in last May’s draft, and had been a member of the team’s practice squad since the regular season began. In the preseason, the 22-year-old gained 167 yards on 41 attempts.
Given that he is being signed away from San Diego’s practice squad, NFL rules dictate he will be added to the Cardinals’ 53-man roster.
Butler appeared in all three games for the Cardinals in place of an injured Dave Zastudil. He punted nine times, averaging 47.9 yards per kick — 36.0 yards net — while placing two inside the 20 yard line and having two land in the end zone for touchbacks.
