Arizona Cardinals quarterback Drew Stanton will be evaluated for a concussion that knocked him out of their 41-20 loss at the Denver Broncos on Sunday.

Stanton, who was 2-0 in his first two starts for Arizona this season, exited the game following a hit in the third quarter.

“He’ll go through the protocol for a concussion and when he clears, he’ll be back,” said Cardinals coach Bruce Arians after the game.

“He seems OK right now, but you never know. You’ve got to go through the protocol and take all the precaution we can.”

Stanton, who completed 11-of-26 passes for 118 yards before leaving Sunday’s game, made his third consecutive start for Arizona in the absence of Carson Palmer.

Palmer started all 16 games for the Cards last season and led the team to a win in its first game in 2014, but is recovering from a nerve injury in his right shoulder.

Stanton was replaced by rookie quarterback Logan Thomas on Sunday. Thomas was 1-for-8 with an 81-yard touchdown pass to running back Andre Ellington.

When asked whether Thomas can be a long-term solution at quarterback, Arians said the Cardinals may have no choice but to find out.

“He’s going to have to be. There is no other answer,” he said.
