He’s back: D-backs’ Paul Goldschmidt torches Giants in San Francisco

No one was ready to ask if there was anything wrong with Paul Goldschmidt after nine games of play in 2018.
They were, more so, wondering when it was OK to start worrying about the Arizona Diamondbacks’ franchise first baseman.
Through the first three series of the season, Goldschmidt was hitting 3-of-30 from the plate, with his 10 walks holding back any real fears of a true slump in progress.
The 30-year-old, though, has been far too consistent throughout his career to bring serious doubt, and he proved that in San Francisco at the start of this week.
On Monday, he hit an RBI triple, making it three hits in his last four games.
Tuesday, he was 2-for-4 with two runs scored, including a game-tying home run in the ninth inning that was absolutely smashed to left.

On Wednesday in a 7-3 Arizona win, he made his biggest impact yet. In four at-bats, Goldschmidt had three RBI, two of which came on a monster home run in the fourth to give the D-backs their third straight 2-0 lead of the series.

After D-backs starter Robbie Ray gave up three straight runs in the fifth to make the score 3-3, Goldschmidt quickly got his team back in control with an RBI double on his next at-bat in the sixth to put Arizona back in the lead 4-3.
The run of play for Goldschmidt in the three-game series was encouraging, but would also serve as a reminder of how Goldschmidt can single-handedly change games as an MVP-caliber player.
