Arizona Cardinals try not to get caught up in ‘Jerry’s World’

TEMPE, Ariz. — A handful of Arizona Cardinals have played at AT&T Stadium, the building often referred to as “Jerry’s World.”

But most have not.

Come Sunday afternoon all that will change, as the Cardinals visit the venue for the first time in franchise history, and play in Dallas for the first time since 2005.

Open since the 2009 season, the $1.3 billion stadium seats 80,000 fans. Dallas has sold out all 45 games played in it, along with each of its last 198 home games over all. Oh, and the building houses a videoboard that stretches 60 yards across the middle of the field.

“It’s Jerry’s World, man. It’s a billion dollars — it’s a different world from every other place on Earth, so you’ve just got to stay focused on the task at hand,” defensive back Tyrann Mathieu, who played there twice while in college at LSU, said. “I think if we do that we’ll be alright.”

Kevin Minter, who was a teammate of Mathieu’s at LSU, has similar thoughts.

“It’s ridiculous,” he said. “It’s definitely something. That’s the thing with us; we can’t get just caught up in the stadium because it can be distracting.
