Arizona Cardinals bring back QB Ryan Lindley

Nov 11, 2014, 6:44 PM | Updated: Nov 12, 2014, 10:53 pm

The Arizona Cardinals have brought back a familiar face to help fill their hole at the quarterback position, as the team announced Tuesday it has signed Ryan Lindley off the San Diego Chargers’ practice squad.

He will replace Carson Palmer on the 53-man roster, as the veteran was placed on season-ending injured reserve due to a torn ACL.

Lindley was originally selected by the Cardinals in the sixth round of the 2012 draft. He appeared in six games that season — starting four — and completed 52 percent of his passes for 752 yards with zero touchdowns and seven interceptions.

He has not taken a regular season snap since, and was released by the Cardinals on Aug. 25 of this season.

Lindley was picked up soon after by the Chargers, who placed the 6-foot-3, 232-pound passer with a strong arm on their practice squad.

The signing gives the Cardinals three healthy quarterbacks, though the depth chart behind starter Drew Stanton, which also includes rookie Logan Thomas, remains unclear.
