GLENDALE, Ariz. — The Seattle Seahawks utterly dominated the Arizona Cardinals Sunday night 35-6 to elevate themselves into the top seed in the NFC playoff picture with one game to play in the regular season.
With Seattle leading 21-6 in the fourth quarter, running back Marshawn Lynch reeled off an unbelievable 79-yard touchdown run to put the game even further out of reach.
Lynch took a handoff from quarterback Russell Wilson, started left, broke a tackle from Cardinals linebacker Glenn Carson and then broke to the right sideline. Cornerback Patrick Peterson made contact with Lynch at the 45-yard line and tried to strip the ball. Bad move.
Lynch got by Peterson, bowled over Rashad Johnson, stayed in bounds and headed toward the end zone. Linebacker Alex Okafor had a beat on him, but Lynch ran through his tackle as well, celebrating with a crotch grab has he crossed into the end zone.
Arizona defensive lineman Frostee Rucker was asked about Lynch’s form of celebration.
“It’s childish, no time for that stuff,” he said. “Sorry, I don’t have much to say.”
Rucker still had more to say than Lynch, who was asked about the touchdown run, which is the longest of his career.
“Thanks for asking,” Lynch said, before being asked again by a reporter. “I know. I said, ‘thank you for asking.’ I appreciate it.”
