Arizona Cardinals release WR Ted Ginn, Jr.

Feb 23, 2015, 9:52 PM | Updated: 9:54 pm

The Arizona Cardinals have released wide receiver Ted Ginn, Jr.

The move will save the Cardinals $2.5 million on the 2015 salary cap.

The Cardinals signed Ginn last offseason to a three-year, $9.75 million contract with the expectation that he would serve as their primary threat in the return game as well as bring speed to the wide receiver group.

However, while he was the team’s main kick and punt returner, he was not particularly effective in either role, and his spot as the team’s third receiver was taken by rookie John Brown early in the season.

In all, Ginn averaged 10.65 yards per punt return and 18.95 yards per kick return, while catching 14 passes for 190 yards.

The highlight of his season was a 71-yard punt return for a touchdown that lifted the Cardinals past the New York Giants in Week 2.
