Suns President of Basketball Operations Lon Babby has said there are no plans to trade Steve Nash unless the point guard asks to be moved.

Steve Nash has said he has no interest in being traded, but understands the Suns may want to move in a different direction.

With the Suns at 14-20 and the 38-year-old Nash approaching free agency, there are plenty out there who feel like the two parties should go their separate ways before the March 15 NBA trade deadline.

Enter the Orlando Magic?

For those of you who don't know, Orlando is looking to appease star Dwight Howard, who is set to become a free agent and could leave town. The hope is acquiring Nash would make the team a contender this season while also keeping the team's star player happy. Do that, and there's less of a chance he'll bail on the happiest place on earth this summer.

If only it were that simple.

One of the biggest obstacles for any team looking to make a play for Nash -- besides the Suns actually wanting to deal him, of course -- is the task of trying to match contracts while giving the Suns something of value.

Any deal would likely involve Magic guard Jameer Nelson, who has struggled this season, and possibly forward Ryan Anderson, who is a Channing Frye-like forward in the midst of a breakout campaign.

The Magic would also likely include multiple draft picks, though it still may not be enough to coax Phoenix into parting with its franchise player.

But they have to try, right?

... but if that deal can get done. Do it! Lets not let our last asset fade away for nothing. We all know that his jersey will hang in our rafters!

Magic may want Nash but do we want discards?
Don't see Anderson or Nelson as pieces we could possibly want. Nash has a specific purpose and fills a definite need. Only thing worse than losing Nash in FA would be to lose hime now for 2 more pieces that would add to the role playing disasters we allready have on this team.

    Hard to see.
I know that Steve Nash is the ultimate professional but it is difficult to see him playing with JRich after the personal issues they had. I would think that a trade would have to have JRich going to the Suns

    maybe im wrong
but i dont remember those jrich rumors ever being proven. i say trade him for jameer nelson, orlandos first rounder next year, and ish smith. if howard doesnt resign, they become a lottery team and we could benefit greatly. should work out salary wise - orlando has an exception from brandon bass. nelson only has 2 years left - could be a good transition point guard.

Bear, I gotta ask you, have you accepted the discards we have on our roster now? Anderson is having what could be a breakout year, Nelson other than Nash is better than any other guard we have PLUS picks? We get that jump all over that. Nash is done, the Suns are going nowhere with Nash or without him or haven't you been watching the past 3 years? I like Nash but we let Amare walk for nothing now we have to get what we can. It's a business.

I know that nothing was proven, but Nash did divorce his wife the day after the baby was born and that is fact. The JRich trade came out of the blue as well. No one saw it coming and that is pretty rare now days

I'm a huge Steve Nash fan, but...
some of you are seriously letting your emotions get the best of you. If the Magic offered Anderson & Nelson & threw in a couple first round picks, that's a no brainer. Plus, this is the final year of Anderson's contract and Nelson has one more year. Also, for those arguing that it's not an even player swap, it's not about the players but getting some draft picks and being able to build for the future. Nash isn't coming back next year no matter what he says. Stop letting the Suns and Nash hypnotize you fanatics out there that he's going to be around for the rest of his career.

Jameer, Anderson + 1st Rd Pick
Only good out of a Nash trade would be our own pick as we worsened. Orl. getting Nash means Orl. keeping Howard, which equals low pick for us. Jameer sucks and we would not resign him this summer. Anderson is, this year and with Howard giving him good open looks, a more consistent shooting Frye. His defense is terrible compared to Frye and that says alot. He has outplayed his contract and is a UFA this summer. Someone will pay him 5-8/m to be their stretch4, hopefully not us.

    bottom line
this trade wouldnt happen. I think Babby would have to jump on it if the Magic offered ANY kind of 1st round pick, but the fact of the matter is Nash alone is not going to keep Howard in Orlando. Even if Nash has 2 or 3 elite years left in him, Howard would be signing a 5 year contract. And thats assuming he likes the rest of the team around him - theres no other star caliber player on that team. He would be much better served to go sign elsewhere to build a younger nucleus

    MVSteve deserves a Ring
I love Nash and what he's done for the Suns, but with the way the Suns are playing, Nash is only making it harder for us to get a better pick come Draft day. I found a deal that actually helps the Suns a LOT, in terms of $ and possibly draft picks as well. Nash, Chill & Frye for Nelson, Redick, Q Rich & Anderson. If Hill instead of Chill, then Magic send at least 1st in 2012. Suns: Save $4.8 mil this season, adds $3.9 next year, saves $27.6 mil in 2013/14 & 2014/15. Then trade Hill next. Magic: It also gives them a very good shot at a Ring and increases their odds of re-signing Howard.
