Ready for another Steve Nash trade rumor?

OK, here you go, courtesy of Dwain Price, who happens to be a Mavericks beat writer for the Star-Telegram in Dallas.

Of all the teams Nash may want to play for that are not the Suns, the Dallas Mavericks would likely be near the top of the list. They're a contender, he's familiar with the franchise after playing for the Mavs from 1998-2004, and his buddy Dirk Nowitzki still happens to play there.

But for Lamar Odom-Kardashian?

The reigning NBA Sixth Man of the Year has struggled in his first season in Big D, averaging just 7.7 points and 4.5 rebounds per game for the Mavericks. However, he's one of the more versatile forwards in the league (think a not- fat Boris Diaw), and is a player who used to always give the Suns problems when he was with the Lakers.

And, maybe most importantly, his contract has a team option for the 2012-13 season. Hello, cap space!

Of course, any idea of a Nash trade goes back to the team's seeming reluctance to part with its star. While it's possible the veteran has given management the OK to explore a deal, that idea goes against everything anyone has heard up to this point.

But, with the Suns struggling to stay on the playoff bubble and the Mavericks desperate to defend their NBA title, it's possible this could turn into a perfect match.

    Not!
Odom is 32 and a head case. It does have some appeal, Odom, Gortat and Frye is a better front line. If you could keep Nash and add Odom then you would have something. It is not going to happen. We will give them Shannon Brown, Robin Lopez and Hakeem Warrick. Think Cuban would bite. NOT!

    Maybe...
Suns already have a ton of cap space for summer...but the only reason to do this trade is to insure Williams doesn't go to Dallas, if/when he leaves the Nets, making a possible run at him going to Phoenix, and if Howard stays in Orlando till summer, the Suns will have enough money and williams to pay both. It won't happen, but that would be the only reason to do this, besides the fact that Nash needs to leave....Cap space doesn't mean anything unless you can pay someone worth the cash

    suns dont have
the stones to trade nash. Plus, this trade to me does not make sense at all. If this was legit, I would bet you would see a 3rd team in this trade where we get picks/young players.

If we're trading Nash to Dallas...
here's what the deal needs to be: http://games.espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=82vl5fg This lets us get rid of two bad contracts and we'd have Roddy and Wright who're not great but they could at least be trade chips next year.

    Not Great / Trade Chips?
Why would you want to trade for guys who are not great that we could use for trade chips. First of all why wouuld another team want guys who are not great? and second we have a lot of those kind of guys already

    I'm sure
Nash has only played for two teams in his career. Phoenix and then Dallas, then Phoenix again. If I were him I think i would want a different team than these two. If I were Nash I think I'd retire and then try out for the Olympic soccer team.

why would we trade nash (FA after this season) for a player that will allow us to make him a free agent? Doesnt make sense unless some future picks are thrown in. One wouldnt be enough considering the mavs aim to still be contenders for the near future. Anyone else see the irony that Nash could goto Dallas and Kidd could back him up when early in their careers it was Kidd starting with KJ and Nash backing up?

    more useless speculation
Who is the "word on the street" from? Some drunken wino? I am sure that Steve Nash wants to re-unite with Mark Cuban who showed no real interest in keeping him back in 2004. Greene - you can do better than this rubbish.
