Steve Nash never had any intentions of asking to be traded, though that does not mean he hasn't thought about the possibility.

A free agent at the end of this season, Nash may ultimately choose to leave Phoenix, his NBA home for the last eight years. But that's for the future, if it happens at all.

A guest on The B.S. Report on ESPN.com, Nash told host Bill Simmons that while he's thought about what it would be like to not be a Sun anymore, he never planned on asking to be dealt.

"For the last year I've thought about it a little bit," Nash said of whether it would be best for both the team and player to move on from each other. "Regardless of whether it's better for them or for me, and all the different combinations…of course I'd love to be on a team right now that has a chance to be in the Finals, but at the same time it's not like that; you can't just go to the front office and say ‘put me on a team that's playing in the Finals.'

"You open up a whole can of worms and say ‘yeah, ok, I want to get traded to a contender,' and now it's gone beyond - now everyone knows you've asked, and where do you go?"

When put that way, it's little wonder why Nash decided to stay put, at least for the remainder of this season.

"I didn't feel like I wanted to take a step like that, not only because of the unknown, but also because of what I would say or do to my teammates and the fans," Nash said. "We've had a lot of great times in Phoenix and I didn't want to overlook all that for them to put it in the mixer and see what comes out on the other side, which could have been anything."

So instead of seeing what it could be, Nash decided to stick with what he knows, which is that he's on a 25-26 Suns team that is fighting just to make the playoffs.

    oh really?
so why did Nash tell ESPN that he won't be back with the Suns unless significant improvements are made. Yeah right, Sarver's gunna do that. See ya Steve. By the way, sign Aaron Brooks when he comes available in China.

    We should
have traded him not only this year but the miricle run that took LA to six.. If i had to choose between KJ and nash im picking KJ 8/10 times.. i give nash two because of his mvps.. Nash is great but when you the O is Designed to you and you dribble 12-15sec. , you should get your numbers..KJ could do it all and guard MJ in the finals while holding his own.. Dantoni has kind of crippled this team to only play one way.. Put Gortat down in the post and give him more opportunities down there

    Where are they now?
I think the big issue now is the Suns just lack talent, a go to guy they had with Amare. I seriously believe they are missing star power, they have pretty good role players in guys like Dudley but they need more star power. But the Suns should have a lot of money this off season, I hope they use it wisely to get some talent here. I think they are in a good position though because they finally have that defensive minded center who also can score in Gortat and Robin Lopez.

We know that Steve did not ask for a trade
Smart move by Steve. He totally avoided looking like the bad guy by forcing managements hand and giving up on other players on the team. All he had to do was wait, during a shortened season to hit FA and then he can walk without looking the least bit bad, since he is a FA. That sure doesn't let the FO off the hook for not trading Nash for a pick and anything else they could get. They just are not basketball minded or so it continues to appear. Talent and picks are continually wasted or traded away for nothing.

    Nash
He needs to go...He is old and injured and it is time to part ways with him!!! He throws it out there like a threat it would do the Suns a favor.

    Let him go...
The Suns should let him go so they can continue to blow all of their cap room on marginal (at best) talent. My guess is Nash will walk this summer and the Suns will blow their cap room on players like OJ Mayo, Jeff Green, and/or Aaron Brooks...which will lead them right back to the lottery. Mediocrity his hear to stay!
