The NBA Playoffs are rolling along, with 16 teams competing for a chance to win the NBA Title.

The Phoenix Suns are not one of those 16 teams, and President of Basketball Operations Lon Babby told Arizona Sports 620's Doug and Wolf it is tough to watch other teams keep playing while his has already begun its offseason.

"We set out this year and our goal was to make the playoffs, so in a real sense the year's a disappointment," Lon Babby said. "That's not to say there were not a tremendous amount of positives."

Babby talked about the All-Star season played by Steve Nash, the improvement of rookie Markieff Morris and the solid years newcomers like Sebastian Telfair and Michael Redd as things to be pleased with.

Still, the goals the team had going into the season went unmet, and that was one of the things discussed in the team's recently ongoing exit interviews.

"We're committed here to really debrief our guys, and talk to them and get their opinions," Babby said. "We probably spend, on average, about an hour with each of them."

Whether it's about food the team provides, travel schedules or feelings on their teammates and coaches, Babby said the organization is learning a lot about how they can make the Phoenix Suns a better organization to play for.

"We put a lot of time into it and it's time very well worth spending because you can learn an awful lot," he said.

The trick is learning as much as they can as quickly as they can, because with the draft and free agency fast approaching, the time to make decisions will soon be at hand.

"When that bell rings you've got to be ready to roll and you've got to know exactly where you're going and how you want to do it," he said, noting that there really isn't much time to rest right now.

So, the plan is already being worked on, and as Babby said while the team has some problems to fix, the Suns are certainly not alone in needing to make changes. Going forward for his team, though, Babby said the goal is to find a way to balance the future with the present.

"That's been the challenge since I got here," he said. "How do we stay as competitive as we can while beginning a process of returning where we want to be, which is elite status?

"I'm absolutely confident that we've done it the right way, but it requires a little patience and it can't all be done in one fell swoop."

    Patience?
Are you kidding me? PATIENCE????? Well lets see, how many rings have we won? Ummmmmmmm.....none. How many Western Conference Championships have we won? Ummmmmmmmmmm...2. In 44 years this franchise has been in existance, we've won bupkis. And you want patience? You're lucky we even check the scores in the newspaper. So lets go with the obvious, we've been lied to how buying out contracts on guys like Shaq, Carter, Wallace and countless others would free up money to bring in players, well?? We're waiting...

    Not many other teams
Suns just one of many. Clippers, Hornets, Nuggets, Portland, Utah, T-Wolves, Grizzlies, Kings, Cavs, Bobcats, Hawks, Pacers, Magic, Nets, Raptors. The fact is there is more that haven't won championships than Not an excuse just a fact. You need a little luck. Suns haven't had that.

    What a joke
this organization is. Just say it Babby, we enjoy and strive for mediocrity. We dont want to be irrelevant and wont face reality that nash is going to leave this organization high and dry in a few months. Their plan is laughable. You cant rebuild with late lottery picks and attract top free agents with no future or talent on the roster. Get ready suns, this is going to be a long rebuilding process.

Portland has won a championship. Yes, you need luck, but you need to have a front office that has a vision of rebuilding a mid market team that is not as desirable as it used to be. but you have to also look at what the Spurs have done. Before their run, they were horrible. Look at the heat and mavs? Might as well thrown in what OKC is doing and the potential they have for years to come to win it all. They had luck, they they also blew it up and rebuilt their team with young talent. Sarver and baby wont do that because they are morons.

To the so called Suns Fan Tennisgrandpa
You are right about it being hard to have patience for a team you promotes patience every year. But a little History lesson will show you the Suns have won the Western Conference Championship twice. (1976 and 1993)

    get real Babby
If Babby thought Morris showed great improvement then he must not have watched many games. The kid looked like he was lost most of the time. The coaches made a big mistake by letting this young kid stand out in never never land and jack up 3's. Big wide body guy like that should be under the basket getting rebounds and blocking shots.

    YAWN....
Sarver is by far the worst owner in the NBA.... Signing completely useless players to horrid contracts (Frye, Childress, Telfair)... Channing is tissue soft, possibly softer... Childress is completely useless, signed because he knows Babby? LAME.... Now they riding Telfair's coattails because he was good the last 2 wks of the season?... Bottomline with Sarver and moronic team in charge we are not goin anywhere anytime soon... Nash sees it and I hope Nash does go to a real contender because he deserves a RING... He tried honoring the Suns organization BUT they are clueless...

    Next Year, Next Year,.............................
We are tired of hearing be patient next year will be better. It's all BS. Now we'll lose Nash just like Amare and get nothing in return. Not only will lose his talent, we lose the Identity of this team. With no clear identity and direction being able to attract quality talent will be tough. Jerry please buy back in................

My brother and I were talking about the possibility of Brian Colangelo coming back to buy the Suns, Jeerys too retired, but I caould live with Brian owning the Suns. I think that's our only shot.
