The Phoenix Suns have set themselves up so that they have enough salary cap space to be big time players in the free agent market this summer.

However, as President of Basketball Operations Lon Babby has said, the team will not spend money just for the sake of spending money.

Which begs the question, for what is admittedly a talent- deficient roster:

Will any prime-time free agents want to come to the Valley to play basketball?

Babby thinks so.

"Everyone wants to play with Steve Nash, and he's made a lot of guys a lot of money over the years because of the way he plays," he said at an end-of-the-season meeting with local media.

But Nash is himself a free agent, and if he chooses to leave town much of the allure Phoenix has could go with him.

"I'm confident that no matter what happens this is going to become a destination for free agents," Babby continued. "It should be, there's no reason for it not to be, and we're going to do everything we can to make this as player-friendly a franchise as we can.

"And early returns on how our players feel about it is we're making a lot of progress in that area."

    But I did not go to one game this whole season and I only watched the last couple of games to see if they could pull it off to make the playoffs. Just because I got the cap space in my budget doesn't necessarily mean I'm going to spend just to spend it. What's even more odd - nobody at the office (huge call center 300+) talks about the Suns or wears any Suns gear any more.

    100% agree - everyone here is so hell bent on saying these guys sucks no one even stops to think logically about how you build a team and whats out there. They draft someone that pans out like Rivers, Jones, Marshall or someone that could become a superstar, sign a potential FA in 2013 (Milsap/AlJefferson, J Smith, someone that develops next year), and get a top draft pick next year, we could be a quick contender. They key is to scout smart and spend wisely. Dont overspend on something that isnt going to be a stud.

    Nash will not leave if the team improves. Go after Gordon, Dragic, Crawford, and Humphries in free agency and put a good product on the floor. PG: Nash/Dragic/Telfair SG: Gordon/Crawford/Redd SF: Dudley/Hill PF: Humphries/Morris/Frye C: Gortat/Lopez/Frye Not to mention what they might be able to find in the draft.

    All due respect but I wouldn't pay to see that team fall short of the playoffs again. The guys you listed, the only guy that plays defense is a 40 year old Hill. We have no power forward to speak of. We'd be changing bodies in jerseys with the same type player and that approach has proven to be a loser. The only reason to keep Nash would be to come off the bench. I say gut the team

    I'm starting to think that Sarver's plan all along was to sink the Suns franchise and alienate the fan base to the point that no one will care if he moves them to San Diego. He could even use the lack of support as justification for the move. Beware Suns fans. This evil little man might not just destroy your favorite team, he might take his ball and go home too.

    He didn't win last win couldn't win this year, why are we dragging him along? This team is in a horrible position and if they keep shooting for 9th in the west, they will never get any better. Rebuild get picks keep the cap space to do what the Thunder have done.

    I wouldn't have expected anything less from some old man that had lost his mind. Dudley doesn't play defense? Humphries won't? Telfair and Dragic don't? You are old and delusional if you think the team I just laid out would not make the playoffs... Time to take your pills...

    I've heard that Harden really misses the Phoenix area. Would it be possible that our "genuises" in the front office might make an attempt to sign Harden as a FA after next year? The guy can flat out play.

    Tried to keep things respectful but lets go down your list, Dudley played better defense last year, this year he was our go to scorer and his defense lacked and he was a step late the second half of the season. Telfair had a good half season as well buthasn't proven himself beyond that. Humphries and DRagic are possibilities but they're not even on our squad so you can't assume they will be. I won't fault Dudley because he's done far more than expected, but thats only because of the scrubs on this roster

    As far as the pills go, thats a given with age. Just don't quit taken your doofus pills, but you may want to up your dosage, your true personality is shining thru. When I said "no disrespect" I meant that in a gentlemanly way, but you Jim Rome types are just unable to carry on a conversation like a man. I don't come in here to start trouble, I speak my mind and if that differs from yours or anyone else then talk like you have some upbringing and not on some Jerry Springer Show. Just some input, no disrespect intended.
