The Phoenix Suns have set themselves up so that they have enough salary cap space to be big time players in the free agent market this summer.

However, as President of Basketball Operations Lon Babby has said, the team will not spend money just for the sake of spending money.

Which begs the question, for what is admittedly a talent- deficient roster:

Will any prime-time free agents want to come to the Valley to play basketball?

Babby thinks so.

"Everyone wants to play with Steve Nash, and he's made a lot of guys a lot of money over the years because of the way he plays," he said at an end-of-the-season meeting with local media.

But Nash is himself a free agent, and if he chooses to leave town much of the allure Phoenix has could go with him.

"I'm confident that no matter what happens this is going to become a destination for free agents," Babby continued. "It should be, there's no reason for it not to be, and we're going to do everything we can to make this as player-friendly a franchise as we can.

"And early returns on how our players feel about it is we're making a lot of progress in that area."

    Good Gawd!
There is no allure to a team being led by a guy past his prime. It angers me that they even think about not spending cap space for a team. Are these guys truly that stupid? TRULY!!! SUNS BRASS, ARE YOU THAT STUPID????????

    SHORT AND SWEET
If you don't spend the money, I will not attend a single Suns game. I will not buy any apparel or mechandise......freakin nothing! If you don't know how to put a good team on the floor, quit. Sarver, please sell the team to someone that wants to win. Phoenix is tired of being your short-term investment portfolio.

the front office is. No free agent is coming here to play with a guy that is almost 40. Players want to win and this is not a place to do that unless they can except mediocrity. time to rebuild through the draft and dont spend money on useless players. Babby is a horrible used salesman and his philosophy is giong to drive this team into the ground along with Sarver. At least we might be a top 3 pick in doing so.

With this admitted strategy, not to spend $$
Why in the world did the Suns not trade Steve Nash this last season that was shortened and which has a deep draft? The pain would have been lessened over a short season and the payoff would have been a lottery pick. Now the Suns expext fans to follow them through what looks to be a horrifying upcoming season of loss to get to where they should have been the season prior if they had any BB intelligence what so ever.

means nothing, Sarver Babby and Blunts have over payed role players and bench warmers, let go or traded every good free agent.the only decent get was gortat but they threw in j-rich because they didn't want to pay him, drafted a power forward..turned him into another chaning frye..said they didn't want to blow up the team..then did..not spending cap space on non game changers..is the right thing to do ..watch them do it..SAD TIMES FOR SUNS FANS...

    Typical
For any real Suns fans left out there (this is the most bandwagon state there is) realize that this is a good thing. Look at the list of free agents. Do your homework. Who would you want to sign? There's no one of real value. We have to be bad before we can be good again, but none of you want that. You can't have your cake and eat it too. Warrick and Childress weren't Babby's hiring. The only move he made that was a bad one was getting rid of Goran - who is coincidentally the only FA I would chase. Think before you speak.

    ok, I'm thinking
1st thought: The Suns suck, 2nd thought: I have absolutley no confidence Sarver and his band of merry idiots can ever put a team together, 3rd thought: Yep, free agency list is poor but it's not like if there were good players on it that they'd want to come to Phoenix anyways, 4th thought: why not dump the players we got and go for draft picks? oh yeah, they guys we got suck, who'd want'em? Final thought cuz this is giving me a headache: We suck and now the Suns brass go on record that they're not gunna spend cap space...reaccessing previous comments....ok, I'm back to we're screwed for years.
