Could Goran Dragic be back in the purple and orange of the Phoenix Suns again? (AP Photo)
Over the next month or so, a lot will be learned about the future of the Phoenix Suns.

On June 28, we'll find out whom the Suns will take with the 13th overall selection in the NBA Draft.

More importantly, on July 1, the free agency period starts and we'll learn about the future of Steve Nash. The two- time league MVP is a free agent and has been linked to about a dozen NBA teams who may have interest in signing him, including the Suns.

But what if Nash moves on to greener pastures by either signing a free agent contract or as part of a sign-and- trade deal orchestrated by the Suns? Then what?

The Suns could be looking at Nash's heir apparent in the draft in the form of North Carolina point guard Kendall Marshall.

There are several intriguing point guard options on the free agent market as well, including Deron Williams and former Nash backup Goran Dragic.

Dragic, whom the Suns traded to Houston in February of 2011, got his first taste of being a starting point guard this past season when Kyle Lowry went down with an injury. As a starter, Dragic averaged 18.0 points and 8.4 assists per game while shooting 49% from the floor. He's made himself a commodity on the market.

According to Sean Deveney of Sporting News, the Suns have Dragic on their radar.

Assuming that is not Houston, a source told Sporting News, Dragic could wind up in a familiar surrounding anyway—back in Phoenix. Should the Suns lose Nash in free agency, Phoenix is expected to make a push to re-sign Dragic and give him the reins in coach Alvin Gentry's offense. That would suit Dragic.

Dragic was a second round pick by the San Antonio Spurs in 2008, but was dealt to the Suns on draft night for Phoenix pick Malik Hairston, a 2009 second round pick and cash.

In three seasons with the Suns, Dragic averaged 6.7 points and 2.7 assists in 183 regular season games. He's best remembered for his tremendous performance in Game 3 of the 2010 Western Conference Semifinals, when he poured in 26 points in just 17:27 of playing time in a win over the San Antonio Spurs.

    Dragic
I was fine with trading him away for Brooks, but Dragic has finally stepped up and shown that he can be a good starting point gaurd in this league. The fact that he is a former Sun will help win fans over if Nash leaves. Williams isn't likely to come here, so sign Dragic and draft a pure scorer, then let the rebuilding begin.

    Would be a great move!
Should the Suns and Nash be done then this move is the best move possible. Dragic is not the draw at the gate that Nash is but he brings a lot to the table. He is neither the passer nor the shooter that Nash is, but he is a better defender and he can take the ball to the hole better than Nash can now. Would be a lot less money as well that could better be used elsewhere. If suns sign Dragic and amnesty Childress they would have a lot of options

    Depends on price
I hated the dragic trade, but not cause I love dragic, but because of that 1st round pick we threw in for what should have been a straight up trade. Dragic was and is a respectable pg, but theres a reason we traded him. He's not great, and as long as we don't pay him great money I'm fine with a resigning, but in this weak free agent class I fear mediocre players like dragic are going to command far more money then they deserve. If they can't get Williams and they can't get dragic reasonably cheap, I'd rather they not sign anyone, stink it up next year, and get a good draft pick in 2013.

I think this notion that the Suns would tank a season to get a high draft pick is nothing but a pipe dream. You are asking Sarver to take the hit for a decrease in attendance and he is not going to do that. Babby has already said there is no evidence that the "tanking" theory works. I am not sure how the Hornets will do with Davis. He reminds me of Camby. Good defender, no offense He has only one year of college experience and he is probably better than anybody in next years draft.

    Forget D. Williams, Sign Dragic.
The stats they chose to display only tell half the story, here's his stat line as a starter over 28 games (that is a very large sample size): 18 ppg, 8.4 apg, 3.5 rpg, 1.8 spg on 49%FG/38%--3pointers/84% FT.....you wouldn't want this guy as your starting PG? You'd be crazy to pass on him, especially since he's only 26 and about to begin the prime of his career.

I agree with your pipe dream comment. If the Suns were gonna tank, they would've/should've done it this year. I love the idea of signing Dragic, as long it's for a reasonable deal...say $8 mil/per or less.

    YES!
Bring him back. He has shown he can be the man and take control of a game. Back in Phoenix he would be comfortable and the fans would truly embrace him! He is the perfect point guard for our system. Build around him and Gortat.

I think it would be a good move
for the right price. He can be a very successful player given the right scenario like in houston. He is still young and got plenty of things to improve on.
