Suns' Babby confident entering free agency

Suns president of basketball operations Lon Babby, as a guest on Arizona Sports 620's Burns and Gambo Friday, said there are a number of different players the team will target.
"We have the ability to spend whatever money we have available to us under the salary cap," he said. "We're going to maybe spend all of it, maybe spend some of it, certainly not spend none of it."
Indeed, the Suns have as much cap as nearly any team in the league, and with it the ability to win any bidding war that may ensue for a particular player. However, many feel there are too few available players who will be worth spending the money on, meaning there's a good chance the team won't make the big splash many are hoping for.
And that would be OK, because it's better to save the money than waste it on a mediocre player.
"We're going to make smart decisions, and we've got our targets," Babby said. "We're trying to be disciplined, as I've said all along, and make wise decisions.

But, rest assured, Babby is confident it can be accomplished. The Suns executive feels the Valley is still a prime destination for free agents, for a variety of reasons.
"You know what's really going to attract free agents here," Babby said, "is the quality of the organization, the history and tradition of the organization, the hopes and dreams of the future, the quality of the city, the quality of the fan base, the weather, the commitment from ownership and just how we try to conduct ourselves and reflect the values that the community should hope we reflect."
Agree with Babby's words or not, he and the Suns will have a chance to make his statement prophetic over the course of this offseason.
