On draft night in 2011, the Phoenix Suns had a choice between Markieff Morris and Iman Shumpert, two players they had a substantial amount of interest in.

They chose Morris and Shumpert went to the Knicks four picks later, but that may not have been the end of the story.

With Steve Nash appearing all but ready to leave the Valley as a free agent and the Knicks trying to come up with the cap space to match Toronto's offer to the point guard, rumors of a sign-and-trade deal are swirling. And, one guy the Knicks would offer to entice the Suns to deal is, in fact, Shumpert.

In other words, the deal would be Shumpert, who the Suns likely still have interest in, and filler. And when we say "filler," we mean "nothing of any real value."

But the key to the deal would be, of course, the former Georgia Tech guard.

The 22-year-old averaged 9.5 points, 2.8 assists 3.2 rebounds and 1.7 steals per game as a rookie, but had his season cut short when he suffered a torn ACL in his left knee in Game 1 of the first round of the playoffs.

At 6-foot-5 with excellent leaping ability (assuming he returns to form from the injury), Shumpert would certainly be a nice piece to have going forward for a rebuilding team.

But alas, this entire possibility -- from the Knicks possible offer to the Suns having interest -- very much hinges on the idea of Nash preferring to go to the Big Apple. Should he be content to head to Toronto this will all be moot, as the Raptors can sign the two-time MVP to a big contract without needing the Suns' help.

There is also a report that Nash wants his ex-wife to move their children to whatever city he chooses to play for.

    Keyword
The keyword from Chad Ford is COULD. They COULD offer Shumpert. The heat COULD also offer DWade for Nash. Not going to happen though. Knicks like Shumpert way too much from what everyone has said.

    COULD
Did Ford just play on the ESPN trade calculator, or does he have a source? I'd be pleased if they could get Shumpert out of the deal, but Landry Fields and the bucket of junk mentioned in an earlier reoprt seems more likely.

    Perfect Scenario
Get Shumpert, who then sits out at least half the season with knee, this then gives us a solid building block moving forward while also helping us in our rebuild by "tanking" next season and getting a top pick. Couple this with a Beasley, uber talented who's troubles are hopefully behind him, signing and the growth of Marshal and we are looking good moving forward.

Shumpert is good but what about the trash?
Are the suns easing the knicks books by paying off their trash players. Lets hope not. Lets use the money we have wisely if we want to be a contender in the next 5 years.

    Use it wisely?
Sorry man, couldn't help but laugh at that one. We needed to use it wisely 4 years ago instead of buying out these contracts of old retread, on their way out ball players. Why would we now use caution when we're one of the worst teams in basketball? If we have half a chance at Shumpert grab him or do we want to give Lopez, Childress and Warrick a raise? We suck, blow this team up

I wouldnt say we are paying their trash - all have expiring contracts i believe so its really just spending some money this season to preserve it next year. And tennisgrandpa, blow it up? What do you call what they are doing? Its not like they can force teams to take childress, warrick, frye, etc with multiple years left on their contract. When they enter their last year, they will be valuable trade assets. In the meantime, we have to deal with them

    shump could be a beast
Shumpert is more of a natural SG and i think on the Suns he could play this position and thrive. Also Shump is a stud on D and can guard the 1-3 and i think that would be huge considering Marshall wont be able to guard anyone. But if we get Shumpert we dont really need Gordon which is good in my opinion because then we can go after a guy like Beasley or Batum to play sf

Great pick up if NO doesnt match. If they do we should complete a sign and trade. Robin lopez, aaron brooks, and 1st round for gordon. Then sign and trade nash to knicks for shumpert and the other players mentioned but add at least a 2nd round draft pick. Then take the players mentioned and trade for draft picks weather first or second round idc. Then sign beasley and i think we will have a solid team to possibly contend.

    No Shumpert! No Way!
If the Knicks don't include Shumpert there is not a reason in the world to do the deal. The rest of the offer is nothing. When the Raptors signed Fields, it pretty much took the starch out of any deal between the Suns and the Knicks. As far as I am concerned Fields would have been better than Shumpert. Shumpert is a decent defender who at times can hit the 3. He is not a point guard. He is going to end up coming off the bench. Not exactly a coup.
