As recently as last offseason, the New Orleans Hornets traded away a star because he said he did not want to be there.

It's the team's decision to part with Chris Paul that has ESPN NBA insider Ric Bucher thinking they'll ultimately do the same with Eric Gordon.

Score one for Phoenix. Maybe.

"They recognize that they don't want to have a guy there that doesn't want to be there," Bucher told Arizona Sports 620's Doug and Wolf Monday. "That said, they are rebuilding this team, they paid a hefty price to get Eric Gordon, and he's an asset."

Which is why, Bucher said, while the Hornets have maintained that they will match the offer sheet Gordon is set to sign with Phoenix, he believes the budding star will end up with the Suns.

"I don't believe, when all is said and done, that they're going to be opposed to trading him, doing a sign-and-trade to Phoenix with Eric Gordon, but they're going to want to get something back for it."

listen Listen: Ric Bucher, ESPN NBA insider
Ric Bucher joined the show and talks about how he thinks the Suns will land Eric Gordon in a sign-and-trade as well as where Dwight Howard will go.
If that's the case, it's interesting to speculate who the Suns might have to part with to land a player of Gordon's caliber. Would rookie Kendall Marshall have to be involved? How about second-year pro Markieff Morris? Or maybe, possibly, someone like Jared Dudley?

No matter who would be sent to New Orleans, one would have to figure some draft picks (perhaps the ones arriving from Los Angeles) will be involved.

Bucher didn't say what the pieces in a trade would be, but added that this isn't a case of Gordon agreeing to a deal with the Suns solely to get the Hornets to offer more money. Injuries kept Gordon out of all but nine games, and it's likely he did not get a good enough feel -- or a good feel, really -- about the organization.

"It is genuine, from what I know, that Gordon doesn't want to be in New Orleans," he said. "He does want to be in Phoenix."

If Gordon Really Wants the Suns...
He signs his rookie qualifying offer instead of the Suns offer. Hornets then are pressure to trade him to the Suns since they can't match or dictate terms.

Keep Gortat Marshall Dragic and Dudley
Anybody else and draft picks is fine. Including Frye and Morris. The rest of these guys are not that good without Nash. Gordon is a talent. Young and not easily obtainable. If this is true, I would say the Suns came out Great in off season. I am really not believing it until I see it though

    Give up these players
I wouldnt mind giving up some draft picks with chilly, warrick or lopez. I am not saying all of those players, but a combo of those players with a few draft picks. Lopez is horrible and he needs to go. Warrick is good in my opinion, but I would give him up for EG. Keep morris and fyre. Sign jj hickson or carl landry for a power forward spot, and have fyre back up gortat.

    No to Mayo
I don't think you can get him anyway. Dallas is interested and they have a lot more money. Not willing to overspend for him. Guy only shows up now and then. Got a bunch of those kind of guys now. Frye, Lopez, Morris and Warrick. Don't need anymore. He hasn't exactly lit it up in Memphis.

Mayo is a head case so forget him. Get Gordon and please include Morris and Lopez in the deal!

Completely agree. Gortat, Marshall, Dragic and Duds are untouchable. I know it's not popular opinion, but I'm all for keeping Markeiff as well. I like the kid's fight. Other than that, do what it takes to get Gordon. That would be a great off season in my book (minus Nash to the Lakers)

    Mayo = Gugliotta 2.0
Remember back in the day when the Suns lost McDyess? The panicked and signed Tom Gugliotta to a huge contract to save face. Signing Mayo if they miss out on Gordon could prove to be a similar mistake. If the Suns are determined to start and undersized combo-guard at the 2, then I would campaign for Jerryd Bayless, not OJ Mayo.

    Eric Gordon
I would not give up any young assets in a sign and trade for Gordon, this includes Gortat, Dudley, Morris, or Marshall. Obviously Dragic and Beasley will not be dealt and also shouldn't. I like what the Suns are building but we cannot ruin it by giving up any of the guys mentioned above. If they do the sign & trade I am all for it, they can use the picks from the Lakers and use anyone else that I have not mentioned. I also think we should re-sign Lopez to back up Gortat...

Having two seven foot true centers is valuable even though Lopez is unreliable at times. Gordon will be unrestricted next year if NOLA isn't willing to deal. We can stand pat with Brown & Redd and get a higher lottery pick if that is the case.
