Report: Hornets not scared, will match Suns offer to Gordon

Well that stinks.

The Phoenix Suns were successful in getting star shooting
guard Eric Gordon to agree to a contract, but it appears
it will all be for naught.

According to ESPN NBA insider Ric Bucher, the New Orleans
Hornets will exercise their right to match the offer and
keep the 23-year-old in town.

Said Bucher in a tweet:

Source: Hornets not scared off by Gordon’s comments, will
match Suns’ 4-year, $58million offer and plan to keep him.
No S&T.

Gordon has repeatedly voiced his desire to leave New
Orleans for Phoenix, saying his heart is with the Suns and
he would be “disappointed” if the Hornets
matched. But it was
apparently not enough to convince new owner Tom Benson to
let him leave.

So while the Suns made a valiant effort to acquire the go-
to scorer
they desperately need, it looks like they’ll
have to turn their attention elsewhere.

That could lead the team to keeping Shannon Brown or Michael Redd, or
possibly even pursuing someone like O.J. Mayo.

We’ll know more in the coming days, but for now it appears
the Suns’ top target will be staying put, after all.
