O.J. Mayo completed his visit with Phoenix Suns' brass over the weekend , but it doesn't look like the two will match up unless Mayo's price tag goes down.

Arizona Sports 620's John Gambadoro tweeted Sunday the Suns weren't comfortable with Mayo's asking price.

The Memphis Grizzlies free agent was the third pick overall in the 2008 NBA draft but held a bench role with the team for the past two seasons.

In 2011-12, Mayo averaged 12.6 points and 3.2 rebounds per contest in 66 games.

    Agreed, not too much
His career stats are very similar to Eric Gordon's. Min FG% 3P% Reb Asst Pts OJ 32 43 38 3.3 2.7 15 (18 in years that he started) EG 35 45 37 2.7 3.3 18 We were going to pay Eric Gordon 14.5 Million per year. I'd think 8 sounds fair.

    Not worth it!
Run at all costs. Just because we paid Childress too much money, doesn't mean we should pay Mayo too! Not worth it one bit. Hold out for next year's free agency.

    As others have said...
Mayo @ 5-6 mil per year would be a good get. Mayo at 8 mil+ per season would be a terrible move. I'd say offer him the same deal as Beasley. If he doesn't take it, move on and sign either Shannon Brown or Courtney Lee to a minimum deal, and then e-sign Michael Redd as their backup. Keep the cap room saved for future signings/trades.

    Seems like a lot but....
8 mil seems like a lot but you were going to give 14.5 to Eric Gordon. Same age. If you look at it in that context not that much

    Math, not money
Anyone who thinks the CURRENT Suns front office is cheap, does not understand NBA economics. Just as Babby said, it's a math problem, not a money problem. I'm fine with Mayo for around 5M. Otherwise, maybe trade for a SG. We have about 20 PFs now.

    Amazing
how ignorant some of you fans are. Give Mayo what he wants are you kidding me!?!?! The guy is an average bench player, this isn't Dwayne Wade here. I'm mad they even got Scola. A team consisting of Dragic, Mayo, Beasley, Scola, Gortat, Frye and Dudley is basketball purgatory! Good enough to maybe squeek into the playoffs but never bad enough to get a top 5 pick! You people have no idea how to build a basketball team! Good jobs Suns ownership, be smart, don't listen to ignorant fools who say you're cheap!

Actually, $8M per yr is TOO much.
I wish O.J. Mayo good luck in finding team willing to pay him $8M per year. At that amount he'd be the highest paid Sun. Mayo is slight upgrade over Shannon Brown. Those who say the Suns are "cheap" and to just "pay the man" really don't have a clue.

    With or Without Mayo
Those suggesting the Suns would have been in purgatory if they signed Mayo, I have one question where are they now? The team as presently constructed they will probably be the 9th or 10th seed in the Western Conf. So no high lottery pick & not enough salary cap space next season to sign a max 2G like Harden (a long shot at best anyway). With Mayo they would have had a shot at the playoffs which is what this FO wants. Without Mayo, they have NO SHOT because they are not good enough and they aren't bad enough to get a high lottery pick - that's the definition of NBA purgatory.
