The Phoenix Suns have lost out on another free agent guard they coveted.

According to ESPN.com, Mayo and the Dallas Mavericks have agreed to terms on a multiyear deal. The details of Mayo's contract were not yet known.

O.J. Mayo broke the news himself via Twitter Monday night.

Mayo had met with the Suns over the weekend but the two teams were far apart on price. The Suns didn't make Mayo an offer during the visit.

The 6-foot-4 shooting guard came off the bench for the Memphis Grizzlies the past two years. In 2011-12, Mayo averaged 12.6 points and 3.2 rebounds in 66 games.

    Mayo
I'm fine with this. Mayo was asking for too much. Save cap space and make a run next year. We now have pieces to build on going forward, but I don't think we'll be good enough for the playoffs, which means we should hopefully have decent position for the draft next year. Beasley, Dragic and Scola are nice additions.

    Next year
This will be a good move if and only if the Suns can make a splash at the position next free agency (Tyreke Evans or James Harden). If they settle for Courtney Lee, I give up.

    Re-sign Shannon Brown
Sign Brown to another one-year deal and hold out for James Harden next summer. No reason to spend just because we have it, we've done plenty of spending so far.

    Stay Put
please dont sign Courtney Lee, he is asking for the same money that Mayo was allegedly asking for (8-9 million) and he's just a role player save cap room for next year and throw the Max at Harden or Evans, ... resign Redd or Brown for one more year until then and let Beasley carry the load offensivly for a year and watch him explode

    Mayo's contract
Mayo's contract with the Mavs is only for two years with a player option after year 1. Sure doesn't sound like a bad contract.
