July 22, 2012: Hill writes thank you letter to Suns fans

It was not a surprise to open up this morning's paper to see Grant Hill take a full page ad out to express his appreciation to the Phoenix Suns fans.

The surprise would've been if he hadn't done so.

Hill is the epitome of class; and that's been the case not only during his time here in the Valley but throughout his career, both college and pro.

For those who might've missed it, here is what Hill wrote in the Arizona Republic:

Dear Suns Fans,

I want to thank you for your incredible loyalty, encouragement, and friendship during the past five years. It has been an honor and privilege to play in Phoenix and serve this beautiful and passionate community as a member of the Suns. The opportunity to be part of such a great organization and city has been tremendous.

My family and I truly appreciate your genuine support over the years and we thank you for so many wonderful memories.

Sincerely,
Grant Hill #33

Laying aside the argument of whether to keep him or go for the rebuild, Hill was a remarkable person on and off the floor, same for Nash. Pro sports need more guys like this.

We have been truly blessed here in Phoenix over the last few years to not only have some of the finest athletes in sport play for our city, but some of the finest people. True gentlemen who are defined by class, selflessness, honor and compassion. Men like Nash and Hill. Like Gonzalez and Doan. Like Warner and Fitzgerald, and of course, Tillman. I don't know of another place with as many sports leaders who are also great ambassadors for humanity. I feel honored.

you Grant! Hopefully the guys we have now will also follow in the same foot steps with class and grace as Hill and Nash. I think this has always been the Suns motive since the Colangelo days. As a long time fan, I too would like to be a part of a Phoenix Suns Championship team, BUT just as well, I'm proud to have been a part of a team with a championship attitude and moral and ethical standing.
