Phoenix Suns roar to huge comeback over Cleveland Cavaliers: By the numbers

The Phoenix Suns went to the locker room Sunday down 61-43 against the Cleveland Cavaliers at Quicken Loans Arena, but the Suns came out of the halftime break firing on all cylinders, taking the lead before the fourth quarter even started. Phoenix held on to its lead for a 99-90 final, setting a couple of defensive records in the process.

Here’s a look at the Sunday’s game by the numbers:

0

Rookie Archie Goodwin returned from a two-game assignment to the Development League, but did not see any time on the floor in Cleveland. He scored 59 points in the two games with Bakersfield.

2

After down 18 at halftime, Phoenix only allowed two field goals to Cleveland in the third quarter, a new Suns franchise record.

3

Former Suns first round draft pick Earl Clark, who signed a two-year, $9 million deal with Cleveland during the offseason, played just 10 minutes and scored three points — shooting 1-for-2 on 3-pointers.

4

Starting forward P.J. Tucker rang up 13 points and 10 rebounds for his fourth double-double of the year. He has grabbed 10 or more rebounds six times in 2013-14.

6

The Suns also set a franchise record by only giving up six points to the Cavaliers in the third period. The Suns scored 25 during that time, and turned an 18-point deficit into a one-point lead heading into the final quarter.

8

Reserve forward Markieff Morris scored a game-high 27 points, marking the 10th time he has reached the 20-point mark in 2013-14. The team is 8-2 when he reaches that plateau.

15

Morris was also a beast on the boards, grabbing a game-high, and a personal season-best, 15 rebounds.

16

Center Miles Plumlee only scored three points in 18 minutes, but he posted 10 rebounds against Cleveland — the 16th time he has reached double-digits in boards this season.

20

Phoenix came back to win after trailing by 20 at one point in the first half. It was the Suns’ second-biggest comeback of the year. They trailed by 21 on Dec. 20 in Denver and came back to win 103-99.

25

With the victory, Phoenix matched its win total from all of 2012-13. The 25-18 Suns still have 39 games left to play this season.

39.5

Although the Suns shot a poor 41.5 percent from the field, they held Cleveland to just 39.5 percent shooting. The Cavaliers also made just five 3-pointers in 16 attempts (31.3 percent).

50

The Suns won the rebound war 50-43. It was a good sign after they were outrebounded by 14 at home against the Washington Wizards on Friday.
