Phoenix Suns’ Eric Bledsoe says Kentucky could beat Philadelphia 76ers

Whenever there is a dominant college basketball team and a wretched NBA franchise, there is always a group of people who believe the college team could beat the pro team.

Although it’s very early, this year’s Kentucky Wildcats look to have the ingredients of one of the most dominant teams we’ve seen in a while in college hoops.

Fueled by nine McDonald’s All-Americans on the roster, John Calipari’s team has won its first three games by an average margin of 30.3 points. Tuesday, the Wildcats destroyed fifth-ranked Kansas 72-40 — the Jayhawks’ worst loss in 14 years.

On the other hand, you’ve got the Philadelphia 76ers of the NBA. The Sixers are off to an 0-10 start and most experts believe they could challenge the dubious league record of just nine wins in a full season, set by the 1972-73 Philadelphia team.

So could Kentucky, a team made up of college kids ranging in age from 18 to 23, beat the 76ers, a team with a $37 million payroll?

Phoenix Suns guard Eric Bledsoe thinks so. The former Kentucky guard said the ‘Cats would win a seven-game series against the 76ers.

“I’m definitely taking Kentucky,” Bledsoe told Brian Geltzeiler and Malik Rose Wednesday morning on SiriusXM Radio. “I think Philly would get probably, maybe one game. I know they’re (76ers fans) gonna be mad, but I love my Wildcats.”

Bledsoe has undoubtedly supplied some bulletin board material for the Sixers, who host the Suns Friday night at Wells Fargo Center.
