Rumor: Houston Rockets may make run at Phoenix Suns’ Goran Dragic

The Phoenix Suns have done a good job of quieting the trade whispers over the last few weeks by winning 10 of 12 games and climbing back into the Western Conference playoff picture.
Still, that hasn’t — and won’t — completely silent those who look at the roster as one that will be tweaked a bit. Most of the discussion centers around the team’s glut of talented point guards, which is where the latest rumor takes us.
BleacherReport’s Ric Bucher says the Houston Rockets are “burning up the phones,” likely trying to find a point guard, and the Suns’ Goran Dragic is high on his list of targets, which also includes New Jersey’s Deron Williams.
“Far more likely is that they go back to a guy that they already know, Goran Dragic, who is in a crowded backcourt with the Phoenix Suns and could be got with that New Orleans No. 1 pick that the Rockets have right now,” he said.
The 28-year-old Dragic is averaging 16.9 points, 4.0 assists and 3.7 rebounds per game for the Suns. However, he is going to be a free agent after this season, and with the Suns having signed both Eric Bledsoe and Isaiah Thomas to long-term contracts last offseason, it’s possible the team may not be willing to pay the price Dragic is likely to command.
If that is indeed the case, the team may then look to move Dragic before the trade deadline in order to get some kind of compensation rather than lose him in free agency with nothing in return.
Of course, if the Suns remain in the playoff race they may look to keep their roster together and take their chances when the season ends.
