The Phoenix Suns overcame a slow start to push the game into overtime with a furious fourth quarter comeback. Unfortunately for the Suns, they did what they’ve done all season, fail to grab a win in extra time.

For an NBA-worst fourth time this season, the Suns failed to win an overtime game, falling 122-110 in Memphis to the Grizzlies. Phoenix has lost six of its last seven overtime games dating back to last season.

An 11-0 run early in the fourth quarter kept Phoenix within striking distance after falling behind early and trailing the Grizzlies by double digits for large portions of regulation.

After scoring the game’s opening bucket, the Suns did not lead again until 1:30 into the first overtime. Memphis forced a second overtime and ran away with the game, outscoring the Suns 14-2 in the five-minute period.

After starting 2015 with four consecutive wins, the Suns have now lost two games in a row, splitting their four-game road trip 2-2.

Here’s how the Suns came up short, by the numbers:

2

Sunday’s game was not the first double overtime game the Suns played this season. Phoenix lost 114-112 in double overtime to the Sacramento Kings on Nov. 7.

4

Alex Len recorded a double-double for the fourth time this season. He scored 14 points and grabbed 13 boards before fouling out in double overtime. Speaking of fouling out…

6

Long games mean high foul totals and that certainly was the case on Sunday. Four players, including three Suns, fouled out of the game in extra time: Markieff Morris, Goran Dragic, Zach Randolph and Len.

7

Brandan Wright made his Suns debut on Sunday night after being acquired in a trade from Boston on Friday. He scored seven points and grabbed two rebounds in a little more than 15 minutes on the floor.

9

Goran Dragic was the only Sun who played 20 minutes or more that failed to score double-digit points. He scored nine points on 4-of-11 shooting.

20

Isaiah Thomas led all Suns with 20 points off the bench. He also had a team-high seven turnovers in more than 40 minutes on the floor.

23

The 3-ball just was not falling for the Suns in Memphis. After starting the game 2-for-12 from beyond the arc, Phoenix finished 8-for-35 (23 percent) from 3. The Grizzlies made nine of their 21 shots (43 percent) from long range.

24

The Suns have played an NBA-high 24 road games this season. Despite the loss to Memphis, Phoenix has fared pretty well away from home, going 13-11.
