Report: D-backs, Montero headed for arbitration

It looks like the Arizona Diamondbacks and catcher Miguel Montero have a date Tuesday morning.

A court date, that is.

According to MLB Trade Rumors, Montero and the D-backs have been unable to come to terms on a salary for the catcher.

Montero is supposedly asking for $6.8 million and the D-backs have offered him $5.4 million.

Montero's agent contests that Montero deserves a salary on par with Mike Napoli and Yadier Molina because of the amount of playing time Montero had last season and the salaries of comparable catchers.

Last season, Montero batted .282 with 18 home runs and 86 RBI.

If the D-backs and Montero don't reach an agreement, he will be a free agent after the 2012 season.

Are these people insane? I don't care what you or anyone on the planet says there is no human being alive or that has ever been alive that is worth that kind of money PERIOD!. These people are playing a game for gods sake ! Anything over 100K is totally ridiculous. I quit going to these games decades ago because of the greed ! Even concessions are nuts! $8.00 for a glass of beer! People need to check for air pockets between their ears these days

Joe, baseball players sacrifice alot more than other athletes in professional sports. They play wayyy more games go through months of spring training, travel, thus sacrificing their time with their family weeks or months at a time. And that doesnt even include the years they.spent in the minors. So I believe that 6.4mil isnt completely absurd. As opposed to prince fielder's "the fatass" contract

Sign him for the 6 million only of he promise not to swing like he's a home run hitter. As a line drive contact hitter hes fine but his ego gets in the way and he thinks he can hit the long ball with the best of them and he can't.

If this man gets hurt and cant play anymore ever he makes 5.4 million for one year. You keep everything except for taxes. He retains 80% Agent takes 20%) after taxes. So Lets do the math You: 50k * 72% (taking out 28% taxes just a guess)=36,000 x 30 years =1,080,000 approx Him 5.4 mil x .72 =3,888,888 x 80% (he has an agent that takes his money) =3,110,000

Now I agree its a nice pay day, but he does something that probably 99% of people cant do which is hit a 99 mph fastball and effectively manage pitchers. If you did something that 99% of people couldn't wouldn't you want to be hansomly compensated? Now if you don't like 8.00 for a beer DON'T BUY ONE, Thank You :)

You just summed up why you will never be worth anything. You really just don't understand economics. Take your whining and self loathing somewhere else. This is for real sports fans.
