The prevailing thought has been the Diamondbacks will not call up top prospect Trevor Bauer until a spot opens in the team's starting rotation.

Because, while the right-hander is tearing up Triple-A to the tune of a 3-0 record with a 1.97 ERA and 42 K's in 32 innings, there simply is no reason to replace Ian Kennedy, Daniel Hudson, Trevor Cahill, Wade Miley or Joe Saunders.

But what if the D-backs don't have to replace anyone? What if, perhaps, they just added Bauer? That's what Arizona Sports 620's John Gambadoro alluded to in a tweet Tuesday.

The upside to the idea is that if Bauer gets the call and is not ready, at least the team would not have traded away one of its five best pitchers. However, do the D-backs really want to take a route that would mean fewer starts for someone like Kennedy?

At any rate, it appears the allure of bringing Bauer to the show is getting to be quite strong, because the D-backs considering a six- man rotation would signify they're willing to do just about anything to get their top prospect to Chase Field.

    Get Him Up Now
There is way to much of he is still young & needs to grow in the minors; just look around & see how many young players are making a major impact; I would keep Kennedy/Miley on a rotation basis only; the other 3 currently on the 5 man rotation can step aside & let Bauer pitch once every week--- in other words do not overload Bauer but bring him slowly but at the highest level now; this kid is dynamite NOW

    Calling up Bauer
No need to bring him up just yet. The current starters are well aware of Bauer and his major league talent. Having Bauer biting at their collective heels only motivates them to perform when it's their turn in the rotation. Remember, he's only been a pro less than a year so let him ripen a it.

    Why not?
If Bauer's as good as advertised, why not do a six man rotation? Doesn't seem to be a very difficult decision to make.

Couldn't agree more. While I can't wait to watch this kid, he's providing good fire to those currently on the roster.

    This is misleading
This is irresponsible journalism. Gambo asked Gibby about it yesterday and Gibby said it was NOT an option. This is a speculative a non-story and should be removed.
