Justin Upton has gone from All-Star to disappointment in the span of one season, as the 2011 NL MVP candidate has struggled mightily in 2012.

Raised expectations from one year ago -- for both Upton and the Arizona Diamondbacks -- have left fans upset this season, with right fielder bearing the brunt of those who voice their displeasure at games.

Recently the subject of boos, Upton may soon become the subject of trade rumors.

According to Ken Rosenthal and Jon Paul Morosi of FoxSports.com, a D-backs fall from contention could provoke them to explore trading anyone on the roster, including Upton.

He has struggled this season and recently was booed at home after finishing fourth in the National League MVP voting a year ago. But he is only 24, and would be attractive to both contenders and non-contenders because he is signed at affordable salaries through 2015.

That long-term control would enable the Diamondbacks to ask for a monster package for Upton, who Towers previously discussed in trades shortly after becoming the team's GM in Sept. 2010.

Upton is hitting just .267 this year with seven home runs and 36 RBI, and has really epitomized the team's season. There are times when he appears ready to break out of his slump, but soon after begins to struggle again.

However, he's just 24-years-old and already been to a pair of All-Star games, and is still regarded by many as one of the best young talents in the game.

The article speculates notes the Indians, Pirates and Yankees as options, though there would undoubtedly be more candidates should Upton become available.

could never make it in New York. He can't handle the AZ fans, so how's he gonna handle NY?

    Trade Upton and Young
I like Parra as everyday center fielder and Young and Upton have been rally killers.... I hate seeing them go, but maybe a change of scenary might be best. I do not really want to give up on Upton, but it's like he forgot to care this year, it seems like he felt it would be easier this year or something. We need to get a quality OF in the package to replace one or both, I do not want to give up on this season yet, but dang this year hurts, so much potential and it's falling apart!!!

    Might be Interesting
I wouldn't mind seeing Andrew McCutchen in a D-backs uni, but I don't think they'll move Upton. It wouldn't bother me if they did, though, as long as they got enough back.

    Upton needs to Grow Up
Nice to see his team-mates sticking up for Upton ( C. Young for one but he is barely hitting .200 & should be considered trade bait ) ; only issue I have with Upton is he seems to be a below average outfielder but GREAT POTENTIAL, definitely " dogs " it on the basepaths, gets picked off way too much @ 1B & finally all the K's looking drives anyone crazy; ( all this & No I would not trade Upton since there is too much upside & a coach hopefully can turn him around ( to date that coach does not exist )

    Good and Bad
I dislike Upton- I have always said he is overpaid and over hyped..That said, he is unfortunately the sole big name besides Goldschmidt that the D Backs have. Unless they get a lot in return, they need to wait this out and see if he matures and gets consistent. This is more of a case of a lack of a veteran in the clubhouse...

    could or would?
You are not even suggesting an unidentified source in this article. They could is a lot different than they would.

    A package of wrecks
Upton, Young, Roberts, and Saunders would be great trade bait to build a consistent starting rotation, a prime outfielder, and a young back-up catcher.and a paid counseling session for Gibson to get him off of the pitch-count and use his head in pulling pitchers would be worth the money left over.

    Average at .273
He's brought the average up a bit but the power is way down. I don't know what his trade value would be but it could be the biggest mistake they ever make. He's still young and you can't replace that type of power. His attitude is poor and if he went to a big market, like New York or Boston, the fans would be all over his butt. Interesting situation to be in. I think it would be best to hold firm for the rest of the season and then evaluate after that.

    is this a joke?
You Guy's can seriously be buying into this. It a ploy to light a fire under him. He crushed the ball on Sunday and he will be back to true form after the All-Star Game.
