Arizona Diamondbacks' right fielder Justin Upton is quite the hot commodity these days. As the trade deadline draws closer, teams' interest in acquiring the 24-year-old's services is heating up.

ESPN's Jayson Stark tweeted Sunday, the Pittsburgh Pirates could be emerging as a frontrunner in the Upton sweepstakes.

FOXSports.com's Jon Morosi also tweeted of the Pirates' interest in Upton.

The Pirates have long been linked as a possible suitor for Upton and have the pieces that could entice General Manager Kevin Towers to make a deal, if that's the road he chooses to take.

    Enough
As much as I applauded the DBack's management for hiring Gibson (and thanked the former evil Dodger empire for their ignorance), I am sad hearing J.Up's name swirling in the news about a possible trade. He is potentially a true 5 tool player (needs to keep working on his defense and throws), he is young and he will keep getting better.

You will not get enough value in return with any trade and if a trade happens I predict the trade will be remembered in history as the answer to a trivia question worst/best trades ever. Maybe not Babe Ruth, but explain again why he is on the trading block? It's not age or money or attitude is it?

There is a very good core of young players on the D-Backs. You don't make it better by subtraction. How about a good hitting veteran. Fix the Pitching woes (isn't that true for every team not in the playoffs?). Any good power in development? Love the work of our 3rd basemen, but a young power hitting good fielding 3rd baseman on the farm would look good now.

Really though, find a number 4 hitter and help the pitching to get back on track. Winning will solve all the non issues. If he is traded, please send him to a good team with veterans where he will blossom so I can say in the future that I watched him play when he was young like I watched Roberto Clemente play the last 6 years of his career.

    Gotta Be a Good Deal
Only a deal that has Pedro Alvarez coming back is acceptable- at a minimum.. I say they do Upton, Roberts, AAA pitcher (think Enright or someone) for Alvarez, Marte, AA pitcher. The teams can swap two disappointing young potential stars.

    Why not?
dbacks love to trade away young talent for nothing and watch them kill it for other teams, ie Carlso Q, Cargo etc. Most likely what they get back will not be good enough to match what he will do in his career. This will be another bad move by them. What losers who cannot wait on the 24 yr old talent.

    Upton
Upton should not be traded, especially for Marte which is our supposedly where our depth is at. Cole is about ready to help, but Taillion is not and we have pitching depth all over the minors. Alvarez is Mark Reynold all over again and I would rather see Ryan Wheeler given a cup of tea than the Ks rack up again.

    not enough
Marte is only a few months younger then Upton and has never reached the MLB level, Upton has been here for 6 years.. he also projects as a lead off hitter.. you dont trade a no.3 hitter for a Tony Womack type of player.

I wouldn't mind seeing him go....

    KT making things worse
Who in the world wants to play for a GM that constantly talks in public about his players like pieces of meat? Yes we know its a business and the large salaries require production but baseball players are skilled tradesman who deserve some dignity.
