In the top of the eighth with no outs, Diamondbacks first baseman Paul Goldschmidt slid into second to break up a broken bat single from Justin Upton that could have been a double play.

According to MLB.com, Dodgers second baseman Jerry Hairston didn't approve of the slide and expressed his frustration after the game.

"He should be suspended. It's totally unacceptable," the 15-year veteran Hairston said about Goldschmidt. "He jumped over the bag to get to me. He was seven feet past the bag. It was terrible."

Hairston remained in the game for the rest of the eighth inning but left with a bruised right shin before the ninth.

"The guy at first [Upton] should have been out for that. He [Goldschmidt] actually started the slide after the bag. He got me good. You know, play the game right. Major League Baseball says it watches every game. If they watched this game, he gets suspended. He's a big part of their team, but he hasn't been around the game long enough. He's got to know better than that. He could have broken my leg."

Some Dodgers players believe the slide may have been motivated by a pitch Goldschmidt took in the shoulder on Javvy Guerra's first pitch of the game after he replaced Stephen Fife in the fifth. Goldschmidt, however, denied any harmful intentions and said that he didn't even think anything of the incident when it happened.

"I didn't realize he was upset until later," Goldschmidt said. "My thinking is Justin hit that ground ball and they could possibly turn a double play, [so] go in there and break it up. Obviously you're not trying to hurt anyone, but you're in there trying to make it so he can't get the throw off. Hopefully he's all right."

Bad blood has been shed between these two teams for years, but for now Goldschmidt and the Diamondbacks leave LA with the momentum as they wait to find out whether or not the league will act on Hairston's request.

Golschmidt went 8-for-12 with two homers and five RBI in the series, while the Diamondbacks outscored the Dodgers 19-4 in the series sweep.

    Goldschmidt > Hairston
No, Hairston. What is "totally unacceptable" an "terrible" is the way you cheated the game by taking PED's. How dare you think Goldschmidt should be suspended for an aggressive slide. You shouldn't even be allowed to be playing this sacred game after what you have done.

    Are you kidding?
Yes, Goldschmidt's slide was late, but he didn't jump over the bag and he certainly wasn't 7 feet past 2nd base either. After watching the play, it was obvious that Goldschmidt barely touched Hairston. In fact, what really stood out was Hairston's pathetic acting job following the play. It was like watching a Euro Soccer player take a dive after being barely touched by the defender. Stop whining Jerry, you sound like a girl.

Suppose Jerry did not think that pitch that hit Golschmidt was done on purpose. Sorry Jerry maybe it is time you retired.

"there's no crying in baseball!!!!". They can't beat us so they try and get us suspended. What a whiner, he must have been to alot of Laker games and picked up on their tricks. Just shut up and try and keep up Jerry. Oh wait, was Hairston just traded again?

Oh Jerry, the slide was intentional? What about the bean ball thrown at him earlier because why? He had a hot bat. You didnt complain about the struggling Uptons slide but the on fire Goldschmidt needs to be gone. The whole team is turning into a joke. By the way, anyone remember Kershaw complaining the way Diamondbacks played the aggressive throwing at batters style earlier this year?

Be happy he slid through your foot
If this had been the 1930 he might of had a steel cleat stuck into his chest. My grandfather tells me baseball is too tame now. Ty Cobb woud have avoided the bag completely and put him on his backside.

this baseball play, was a hard hit... was it warranted, not when ur team is shutting the Dodgers out in the 8th... im assuming that none of your ever played the game, in real life because there is something in the sport called "unintentional rules", like your fastest runner bunting when you have a say 7 run lead, in the 8th inning & no outs... that would piss some people off... goldschmidt had a good series, no doubt, but racists please, at least be truthful...
