Upton hits career home run number 100

From being benched in early June to then being booed by his hometown fans, it's no doubt that career home run number 100 comes as a much-needed positive moment for the 24-year-old right fielder.

Justin Upton's solo home run to left field off of Kyle Kendrick gave the Diamondbacks a 1-0 lead in the second inning over the Philadelphia Phillies on Friday. The Diamondbacks went on to win the game 4-2.
"It was awesome, it has been awhile since I hit a home run so it was big to help the team out early," Upton told Fox Sports after the game regarding home run number 100. "It's something I work on every day. I'm in the cage grinding so to see it happen early is great."
Upton is hitting .271 with nine home runs and 45 RBI on the year and had been stuck on career home run number 99 since July 20 against the Houston Astros.
Currently two games back from the division leading San Francisco Giants, home run number 100 could hopefully come as a momentum builder for Upton, who is on track to have his lowest home run total since being called up by the Diamondbacks in 2007.
