Now that the Arizona Diamondbacks are officially on the hunt for a new broadcast team, rumors of possible hires are bound to pop up.
Though the news of the team parting with Daron Sutton and Mark Grace is less than a day old, names are already being linked to Arizona.
According to the Chicago Tribune, White Sox TV analyst Steve Stone is on the D-backs’ “short list”, as is former D-backs analyst-turned-manager Bob Brenly.
The Diamondbacks, according to a source, are considering Chicago White Sox TV analyst Steve Stone on a very short list of candidates. Stone currently is under contract with the Sox, but he is immensely popular in the Valley and it’s possible he could receive permission to get out of his contract if he receives a lucrative offer elsewhere.
The situation is less complicated for Cubs TV analyst Bob Brenly, who finished the final year of his contract and remains a popular figure in the Valley after managing the Diamondbacks to a 2001 World Series title over the New York Yankees.
Another candidate could be former D-backs analyst Jim Traber, who called games for the team from 2001-03. When asked by a fan about going back to Arizona, Traber responded:
@bburls I would love a chance

No matter who the Diamondbacks end up hiring, chances seem good they won’t need too much time to come to a decision. With Sutton being out of the booth since June and Grace since August, the search has probably been underway for months.
