The Arizona Diamondbacks have decided to bring back closer J.J. Putz for the 2013 season.

The team released a press release Saturday announcing their decision to exercise the club option on Putz's contract.

"J.J. has done a tremendous job for us over the past two seasons and is the leader of our bullpen," General Manager Kevin Towers said. "We are looking forward to bringing him back in the same role next season as we continue to look for ways to strengthen the team."

Putz was 1-5 with a 2.82 ERA, 32 saves, 65 strikeouts and 5 blown saves in 54.1 innings pitch for the 2012 campaign.

In 514 career major league games, Putz is 33-31 with a 3.04 ERA and 183 saves which ranks 11th among active big leaguers.

Putz will enter 2013 with the opportunity to be the 45th pitcher to notch 200 saves and the first member of the D-backs in franchise history to record 100 saves.

Not In Love With Putz Or Bell At All
This Is An Area Of Concern Next Season, Putz Makes Me Nervous Every Time He Takes The Mound I Understand Hes One Of The Better Options On The Market But Was Hoping For Change 15.5 Million Invested Between Putz And Bell Next year Seems Ridiculous Right Now!

    Big Gamble
Given JJ's physical fitness this is questionable at best. He started leaking oil last year & thinks he does not need spring training to prepare for a season. Hopefully between JJ & newly acquired Bell, one will return to their previous dominant roles out of the bullpen. Obviously Bell was a disaster for the Marlins this year. Hopefully the Marlins picked up the majority of his contract

    Putz/Bell = strong bullpen
with a young starting rotation, our starters only really need to take it to the 6th inning for a solid outing because of what we have on the back end in Hernandez,Bell, and Puts. This will save our young arms along with having an advantage with teams seeing 3 other arms and trying to adjust to that.
