The Arizona Diamondbacks are wasting no time making plans for the 2013 campaign.

The D-backs announced two trades Saturday, which turned into a three-team deal.

Arizona traded center fielder Chris Young and cash considerations to the Oakland Athletics in exchange for shortstop Cliff Pennington and minor league infielder Yordy Cabrera.

The D-backs then flipped Cabrera to the Miami Marlins for veteran reliever Heath Bell and cash considerations.

In 2012, Young struggled through an injury-plagued season. He hit .231 with 14 home runs and 41 RBI in 101 games. Young will make $8.5 million in 2013 and has an $11 million club option for 2014 that includes a $1.5 million buyout.

The 29-year-old tweeted his appreciation to D-backs fans during his tenure in the desert.

Pennington hit .215 with six home runs and 28 RBI in 125 games for the A's last season. He moved to second base after the team acquired Stephen Drew from the D-backs on August 20.

The 28-year-old finished the season strong for Oakland, batting .267 with three home runs and 10 RBI. In the American League Division series against the Detroit Tigers, Pennington went 4-for-14 with a .286 average.

Bell went 4-5 with a 5.09 ERA and 19 saves in 2012 for the Marlins. The right-hander lost his closer job a few times last season and often butted heads with manager Ozzie Guillen.

Miami inked the 35-year-old to a three-year, $27 million back-loaded contract last winter. The D-backs will pay $13 million of the $21 million owed to Bell.

    Time to go
Well I have to say I saw this coming. Just like Stephen Drew it was time to move on. CY has been good at times but to many seasons of not being a factor. Heath Bell is big trade for us as he a has always been a problem for us. Now it's nice to have him on our side.

Bell, Hernandez, Putz coming at ya...
You exercise option on Putz as Bell will be a setup guy. Bell (7th), Hernandez (8th), Putz (9th). We are going to have a very young Starting 5 next year, need a strong bullpen who can take over the game after 6 and put it on lock down!!!

Thats a fantastic bullpen. If they resign parra he will be open to playing more often than not. Enjoyed watching Young as a fan, will follow his career and hope he tears it up.

    OK
On the surface based truly on performance, this trade seems OK BUT could be Great only if Bell returns to his performance as a Padre. Getting Pennington is getting a below Ave. player BUT unfortunately CY due to his hitting over the years was a below Ave. CF Good Move BUT Bell is the key & possibly Hernandez will be used in a big trade but keeping Hernandez if JJ is effective could with a Question Mark make for a great bullpen

    Odd Move
Dumping CY is a quick move to get rid of him. Bell can be dominate at times. Pennington, I know zero about. This makes me believe that Upton might be around the corner, allowing them to bring in another outfielder, in trade for a pitcher. If they have no qualms about trading CY, Upton will become the poster child.

That makes a mighty tough 7th, 8th & 9th inning set up. Plus our starters really needed the help by then and just didn't get there. If they can utilize that sort of help on off days, nowthey're looking at just getting thru the 6th which os only 2 times thru the order mostly. That helps our young pitchers a ton.

Parra Has Strongest Arm In The World
Covers As Much Range As CY But His Arm Is A Rocket Unlike CYs The Center Field Position Is As Important As Any He'll Eliminate A Lot Of Problems If Hes Out There Regularly. Bell Raking In 9 Million Next Year Is A Robbery And Pennington Is A Down Grade At Short From Drew. Bell And Putz Are Both Shaky. Moving CY Means Were Going With Kubel Upton Parra And Eaton Next Seaso After Much Speculation Upton And Parra Will Return CY Was The Goat. Left Side Of Infield Still Needs A Facelift And Pitching Is Still Questionable

    I actually like this trade
Cliff Pennington is not a bad shortstop, this move shows that the Diamondbacks are going to platoon Willie Bloomquist and Pennington at shortstop. Additionally, Pennington can play second giving Hill some days off. Moving Young was paramount and I honestly think it will spur Upton to new heights. Without his best friend Upton will now look around and see Goldsmitch and Montero and they way they work. Hopefully he'll model himself after them. I was hoping the dbacks would get hardy for short. Still would be interested in Youkilis for the hot corner
