Oh the fun that goes on at the Winter Meetings.

MLB Network's Peter Gammons was present and recently tweeted about some of the "fun" surrounding the endless trade rumors about Arizona Diamondbacks outfielder Justin Upton:

Upton has been part of trade rumors for the last three offseasons, and his name has been one of the most talked about at this year's gathering.

Obviously nothing is official at this point and Gammons' tweet could indicate just how close the trade was to going down before the plug was pulled. It could also indicate that the deal is close to consummation.

Thursday, talk of complicated three and four-team deals surfaced with Upton being one of the centerpieces for potential swaps. Other teams that have been rumored in such deals are the Tampa Bay Rays, Cleveland Indians, and of course, the Texas Rangers.

Based on Gammons' tweet, Friday could be an interesting day on the Upton front.

    is reporting that this is involved with Rays for the Dbacks to land James Shields, then KT can move either Skaggs or Bauer for a shortstop. Cleveland has showed heavy interest in Skaggs, although I would prefer to part with Bauer, because of the baggage. KT the river boat gambler is at it again.

    With the acquisition of heath bell and the re signing of Putz. With those two and Hernandez, our 7, 8, 9 could be lights out. Regardless of what order they throw.

    So we trade Upton for Shields & then Bauer for Cabrera? So then to we keep Kubel & put either Pollack or Parra in RF?

    i hope not. i just dont see him as an ace, and he is not really on the young side of his careeer. to get anything less for upton isnt worth it. If David Price was involved, heck yea, go for it. But Shields?? Andrus/Profar or bust in my opinion

    I think they may keep pollack in center, and move parra to left, or vice a versa. Kubel had a great fielding year last year, but it was out of the norm, I think he would be much more suited in right.

    Shields is 30 & throws darts. Dude is pitching in the toughest division in the MLB in the AL. He'll be solid for us & he eats up 200+ innings too! Parra best in RF since he has the arm vs Kubel IMO!

    If they could land Shields & Andrus for Upton that would be AWESOME! If not, trading Bauer to Cleveland for Cabrera would be HUGE! Dude is a GG & is a switch hitting SS who is young & talented. We could improve our team with this especially with Eaton replacing CY in CF. That little dude is gonna steal 40+ bases this season!

    So did you land him TX? I didn't think so! I wonder if they may trade this Didi SS to TX for Andrus now along with J-Up!
