When the Diamondbacks traded pitcher Trevor Bauer for shortstop Didi Gregorius, many assumed the Justin Upton trade rumors could finally be put to bed.

After all, the D-backs acquired a young shortstop, so what more could they need?

Then the Diamondbacks went and signed free agent outfielder Cody Ross, creating quite a logjam to have to sort out. Because while Upton, Ross, Jason Kubel, Adam Eaton, Gerardo Parra and A.J. Pollock are all solid options, there are only three everyday spots available.

Someone -- maybe a couple someones -- was going to have to go.

And despite D-backs GM Kevin Towers consistently proclaiming an appreciation for Upton, ESPN MLB insider Buster Olney is reporting the 25-year-old is back on the trading block.

Upton hit .280 with 17 home runs and 67 RBI for the underachieving D-backs last year. The face of the franchise, in the eyes of many he represented all that was wrong with the team. However, he is just one season removed from a year in which he hit .289 with 31 home runs, 88 RBI and 21 stolen bases, so Upton obviously has potential.

And if Olney is correct, it would seem the D-backs are about ready to give up on it.

Was Upton every really off the trading block?
I still think it'd be a mistake to trade him, but can we at least get an established star in return?

    NO!
I think Upton has a much larger upside the Kubel! Everyone seems to forget that Upton is a young ball player that is still developing. I do not think he has even tapped the surface of his potential. Keep Upton in AZ or else we will regret it for years to come.

    Uptonless Dbacks Don't Concern Me
Although Justin Upton certainly is a talented player, he has yet to live up to the high expectations he had when he came to the big leagues five seasons ago in 2007. Sure, he's had two great seasons (2009 - .300 BA, 26 HR, 86 RBI, 20 SB & 2011 - .288 BA, 31 HR, 88 RBI, 21 SB), but outside of that, he is a career .278 hitter with below average defense in RF (the place you put your weakest outfielder).

Club has a Lot of If's
D-Backs are loaded with a lot of IF'S; Trading Upton would be a very very bad move ( obviously Justin needs to drive in 100 & hit 30 HR with an Ave. of .285 for the D-Backs to be anywhere competitive & he is the only player on the roster capable of doing such ); D-Backs have a lot of IF's ( which Kubel will show up / overall starting pitching is suspect / SS still a Big Question Mark / Can Johnson hit .280 @ 3B / need Montero, Goldschmidt, & Hill to have Solid Years / Bullpen needs to be Lights Out

    One More Year
I would like to see a year of Upton without CY. But I am getting tired of reading this nonsense. I sometimes get the feeling their sources are two guys at a water cooler planning their fantasy teams and suddenly there is a trade in the works. "What is the virtue of being first" with news? I guess it doesn't matter if you're right or wrong, as long as you're first.

OK Buster, so the "specific demands have changed". I sure don't see you going into any specific demands. Is this another ESPN pie in the sky tweet??
