Another day, another trade rumor involving the Arizona Diamondbacks.

At least this one doesn't involve Justin Upton -- at least not yet.

According to Fox Sports baseball scribe Jon Paul Morosi, the Diamondbacks have shown interest in Detroit Tigers right-hander Rick Porcello.

Porcello, who just turned 24 in December, already has won 48 games in four Major League seasons with the Tigers.

Last season Porcello went 10-12 for the American League champs, posting a 4.59 ERA with 107 strikeouts and 44 walks in 176.1 innings.

The Diamondbacks have unloaded some starting pitching this offseason, sending young right hander Trevor Bauer to the Cleveland Indians in a trade that secured shortstop prospect Didi Gregorius. But they still have a glut of pitchers and only five rotation spots to fill.

MLBTradeRumors.com also indicates that the Seattle Mariners have interest in dealing for Porcello.

    This makes no sense... which is why I believe it. Towers seems to consistently target players that make absolutely no sense to be targeted as part of either some nefarious under cover padres scheme to dismantle the D-backs from within, or some sort of beautiful minds level of genius that no normal person could ever hope to understand. But seriously, Porcello was solid but not great his rookie season, then anywhere from sub par to down right awful the last 3. Porcello would be questionable as a long relief or #5 starter and we've got no lack of pitchers who can fit those roles.

    he's only what, 23 and has been in the league for 4 years, has great ''stuff'' (better then cahill, kennedy and hudson) but hasnt figured it out yet. would love to see this happen

    Other things to keep in mind: Porcello pitches half his games at Comerica park, generally considered a pitchers park, all our current pitchers stats are based on pitching half their games at chase field, generally considered a hitters park. Porcello's numbers have gotten consistently worse every year he's been in the majors (his ERA did improve last year, but hitters were hitting 3.10 off him, and when you improve with a 4.59 era thats saying something) so it seems hitters are adjusting to him, while he's shown a lack of ability to adjust himself.

    For the record that was supposed to be .310, but anyway, overall I'm not denying there might be some talent there, but he's been trending down and shown me nothing to believe this year will be the year he finally "gets it". As such, while I wouldn't mind if he was a throw in as part of a bigger trade for a better player to help seal the deal, I personally wouldn't want to give up anything of even marginal value to take a chance on the guy, especially when we have so many other comparable pitchers already competing for that 5th rotation slot.

    We already have Kennedy, Miley, Cahill, McCarthy, Hudson, Skaggs, and Corbin all of whom are locked up for at least the next two years. I thought the plan was to give Skaggs a shot at the rotation. If you get Porcello you're only adding to that logjam.
