The Arizona Diamondbacks swung a seven-player deal with the Atlanta Braves Thursday morning that sent two-time All-Star outfielder Justin Upton and third baseman Chris Johnson to the Atlanta Braves in exchange for five players.

According to USA Today's Bob Nightengale, busy Arizona GM Kevin Towers might not be done yet.

Ahmed is a 22-year-old shortstop the Diamondbacks received in the Atlanta deal. But with Didi Gregorius already in the mix from an early offseason maneuver, he could be considered only trade bait for Arizona.

Porcello has been rumored as a target for the Diamondbacks before. The 24-year-old right-hander has four full seasons of big league experience under his belt. He's gone 48-42 with a 4.55 ERA for the Detroit Tigers.

    Why?
I'm not against it, but why? Look at the starters we already have: Kennedy Cahill Miley McCarthy Skaggs Corbin Delgado Hudson (likely will return at All-Star break) Collmenter (Spot Starter) I guess you can never have enough pitching, but still. We just freed one log jam, why create another?

    New Rule
Towers must not make anymore trades for the next two years. Let things play out. Are they planning on having a seven-man rotation?

    Depth
Towers has always been a GM of depth, look at his days in SD. With the longest season of all the Pro Sports, attrition is a hug part of the game. When we lost Huddy we weren't prepared and suffered all year from it. If you look at last year our starting pitching on the whole was bad, and didnt go more than 6 innings many times.

    Not Archie or Skaggs
Pitching Prospect should not be Archie Bradley or Tyler Skaggs

    It's good to have depth
Especially at the Pitching spot. It's a 162 game season and Pitchers will break down eventually so you need a Plan A, B, C, & D.

    Never too many starters
Just to look at it Kennedy is on a one year contract, Miley had a terrible second half of the season, McCarthy is returning from a major surgery, Skaggs and Corbin may still be a year away. Hudson returning from major surgery. Delgado projects to be a middle of rotation guy, and Collmenter has proven to be venerable.
