The Arizona Diamondbacks have agreed to a four-year contract with newly-acquired infielder/outfielder Martin Prado.

Arizona Sports 620's John Gambadoro has reported the deal is worth $40 million. Prado earned $4.75 million last season.

The new deal allows the sides to avoid an arbitration hearing.

Prado spent the first seven years of his big league career with the Braves. The former National League All-Star hit .301 with 10 home runs and 70 RBI while belting 42 doubles for Atlanta last season.

In his career, Prado has batting average of .295 with 52 home runs and 286 RBI.

Prado was acquired from Atlanta last week along with pitcher Randall Delgado and minor leaguers Zeke Spruill, Nick Ahmed and Brandon Drury in the trade that sent outfielder Justin Upton and third baseman Chris Johnson to the Braves.

    Nice!
Glad the Dbacks were able to get that done. Quite the raise for Martin. More than doubled it per season.

    Thank you KT
Now we don't have to worry about him leaving after the season. and we have 4 years to see if this trade pans out. I still miss Upton, but DBacks fans can sleep easier knowing we didn't get rid of JU for nothing.

Great deal and Kubel is still here
Thank goodness. Chase is a hitters park. I agree with Ken Rosenthal and Peter Gammons who said that an impact player is an important part of the team and if you lose Kubel and Upton the power, the impact player is gone from this line up..The guy who can change the game with a single swing..

    Ugh
Upton is a better player and bargain now, and this deal is only going to get worse. In 3 years, 28 year old Upton will be making $13 mill, and 33 year old Prado will be making $10 mill and still around for one more year. I doubt a 34 year old Prado will be a good deal at $10 mill.

No kidding. Man, I can't remember the last time someone that old ever made a contribution.

    And J-Up
will still be hitting below .280 & still not knocking over 100 RBI's in a season! Continually underachieving as always!

You can't remember when someone 34 or older made a contribution? Nearly all the key players on the 2001 World Series team were 34 or older (for a very quick example). You obviously know nothing about baseball. Stop posting and making yourself look foolish.
