Andy Kaufman's brother claims he's still alive

Ever since Andy Kaufman died from cancer in 1984, many people speculated he faked his death. If you're familiar with the American entertainer's wacky personality, it wouldn't be too surprising if that was actually the case.

According to his brother, Michael, it just may be.

Michael was speaking at the Andy Kaufman Awards in New York City on Monday, where he claimed to have a letter from Kaufman stating he faked his own death, reports Hollywood Life.

"Everything was great in his life and he just wanted to get away from being Andy Kaufman," Michael said. He also claimed that the "Taxi" comedian was raising a daughter with a woman he loved.

Then, things got even more weird. The daughter who Michael mentioned in the letter was brought onstage. She told the crowd that Kaufman was secretly alive and planned to shock the world that night, but backed out.

"I witnessed the entire thing and I can tell you without a doubt this was not a prank," Al Parinello, a friend of Andy's (and the award show's producer) told the Hollywood Reporter.

According to the Huffington Post, the mysterious woman is 24 years old. We checked with our math experts, and that would mean she was born after his death.

If it does turn out that she is Kaufman's biological daughter, and 24 years old, it certainly strengthens the case that Kaufman is still alive.

Kaufman's life was portrayed by Jim Carrey in the 1999 biopic "Man on the Moon," which showed his many alter egos and offbeat personality. He was also known for having interest in faking his own death.

So, do you think Andy Kaufman is still alive, or did the world lose a great entertainer in 1984?

UPDATE: The reported daughter of Kaufman turned out to be actress Alexandra Tatarsky, who was recruited by Michael Kaufman to perform the hoax, reports the Smoking Gun. Her actual father is a psychologist who specializes in substance abuse. So Kaufman is still no longer with us. For now, that is.
