ARIZONA DIAMONDBACKS

Martin Prado: By the Numbers

In January of 2013, the Arizona Diamondbacks finally pulled the trigger on a long-rumored trade that sent former first-overall draft pick Justin Upton to the Atlanta Braves.

The centerpiece of the return coming back to the desert was Martin Prado, a fan favorite in Atlanta for his leadership and style of play.

We can now officially say the ‘Prado in Arizona’ project didn’t work out. The D-backs dealt the Venezuelan infielder to the New York Yankees for power-hitting catcher prospect Peter O’Brien Thursday.

Here’s a look back at Martin Prado’s time in the Valley, by the numbers:

.473

The D-backs’ winning percentage in the 261 games Prado played in.

10

Prado’s longest hitting streak as a member of the Diamondbacks. He accomplished the feat twice — once in 2013 (Aug. 23-Sept. 3) and once this season (July 1-July 11).

281

Prado had 281 hits as a Diamondback — tied for 27th most in franchise history with Ryan Roberts.

46

Prado hit into 46 double plays in his one season-plus in Arizona, which was the second-most in the National League in that time frame. Only St. Louis outfielder Matt Holliday (47) hit into more.

29

The 29 double plays Prado hit into during the 2013 season are a Diamondbacks franchise record.

.374

August 2013 was Prado’s best month as a D-back. In 26 games, he hit .374 (43-for-115) with four home runs and 30 RBI.

24%

Nearly a quarter of Prado’s RBI total (30-of-129) came in that one month.

.279

Prado was a decent hitter at Chase Field, batting .279 (137-of-491) on home turf.

.276

He was almost as good on the road, hitting .276 (144-for-521).

$24.6 million

The amount of money the Diamondbacks will save over the next two-plus seasons by unloading Prado and his contract. The team signed him to a four-year, $40 million deal early in 2013.

19

As Prado heads to New York, so does his patented “dirt bath” walk-off win celebration. He was able to be a part of 19 “dirt baths” over the last two seasons. The most common recipient of Prado’s dirt? Paul Goldschmidt, who has delivered five walk-off hits since the beginning of the 2013 campaign.
