Diamondbacks-Indians game postponed due to rain; double-header scheduled for Wednesday

Well, strike that one from the record books.

The Arizona Diamondbacks began their series against the Cleveland Indians at Progressive Field at 4:05 p.m. MST Tuesday. The two teams competed until one out in the fourth inning before rain overtook the game and caused a delay.

Play stopped not even an hour after the first pitch, and the two clubs were kept in the dugouts for several hours. As the rain let up, play was scheduled to resume at 8:30 p.m. MST.

Just as both clubs were ready to take the field again and Diamondbacks pitcher Andrew Chafin was about to make his MLB debut, a downpour came again and the tarp went back over the infield.

After that setback, the game was called off and postponed until Wednesday, making it a double-header for the two clubs. The Indians (59-59) had a 1-0 lead before the rain stopped play.

Wednesday's game was already scheduled for 4:05 p.m., and the D-backs (51-67) and Indians will now have a contest at 1:05 p.m. as well.

The 24-year-old, left-handed Chafin will start the first of the two for the Diamondbacks, and lefty Vidal Nuno (0-3, 4.05 ERA) will begin the second contest, facing off against right-hander Trevor Bauer (4-7, 4.52 ERA). Tune in to Arizona Sports 98.7 FM to hear both contests Wednesday, with pregame coverage beginning at 12:35 p.m.
