Arizona Diamondbacks reinstate Daniel Hudson, Cody Ross from the disabled list

Two Arizona Diamondbacks players will return to the field soon.

On Monday, the team reinstated pitcher Daniel Hudson from the 60-day disabled list and outfielder Cody Ross from the 15-day DL, according to general manager Kevin Towers.

Ross went on the disabled list on July 22 with a strained left calf. In 66 appearances with the Diamondbacks this season, the 33-year-old veteran is batting .238 with five doubles, two home runs and 11 RBI. He had picked up his performance prior to going on the DL, batting .358 with three doubles, a homer and four RBI over his 25 most recent appearances.

Hudson, meanwhile, hasn't appeared with the Diamondbacks since 2012, when he had a 3-2 record in nine starts. He has undergone two Tommy John surgeries since that time, and he most recently made six rehabilitation starts in the minors, including two with Triple-A Reno, where he gave up one hit, one walk and no runs with two strikeouts in 2.0 innings pitched.

The Diamondbacks' active roster is now at 27, with their 40-man roster at 40.

Arizona begins a four-game series in San Diego on Monday. Trevor Cahill (3-9, 4.98 ERA) is scheduled to start the series opener, facing off against Tyson Ross (12-12, 2.64 ERA).
