With the baseball world’s attention focused on Chicago and the litany of firsts achieved by Kris Bryant, another rookie’s accomplishment got buried a bit.

Yasmany Tomas of the Arizona Diamondbacks, like Bryant did Saturday, got his first big-league hit Sunday in a 5-1, series-clinching win over the San Francisco Giants at AT&T Park.

With a hit-and-run on, Tomas slapped an 0-1 pitch from San Francisco reliever Jean Machi in the gap between first and second base to right field, advancing Nick Ahmed to third base with one out in the top of the ninth inning.

“I am very happy with my first HIT MLB, and happy because I will be a father for the second time!” Tomas tweeted.

The Diamondbacks signed Tomas to a $68.5 million contract prior to the season. He started the year at Triple-A Reno before being called up last week.

Tomas has gone 1-for-4 since being recalled, all in pinch-hitting situations.
