...

After defeating the Miami Marlins 7-6 Thursday to sweep a four-game series, the Arizona Diamondbacks have played 40 games, or roughly one-quarter of their 2015 schedule.

Here’s a look at the first fourth of the season, by the numbers.

19-21

The D-backs’ record through 40 games — a four-game improvement over their 2014 mark of 15-25.

+13

The D-backs’ run differential — the ninth-best mark in all of baseball.

4

The Diamondbacks are one of four teams with losing records that have a positive run differential mark. The others are Toronto, Pittsburgh and Baltimore.

1.024

Paul Goldschmidt’s OPS (on-base percentage plus slugging percentage) through 40 games. His career-high in that statistic was .952 in 2013, the same season he finished second in the National League Most Valuable Player balloting.

10

Speaking of Goldschmidt, the first baseman ranks in the top ten in the National League in home runs (10), RBI (32), batting average (.317), runs scored (30), hits (47), walks (25), on-base percentage (.421), slugging (.603) and WAR (2.3).

188

The D-backs’ run total through 40 games, the second-highest mark in the National League.

5

Arizona pitchers have combined for only five saves in their first 19 wins on the season — tied with the Oakland Athletics for the second-lowest total in all of the Major Leagues.

3

The D-backs have been swept in three series this season: April 24-26 by the Pittsburgh Pirates, May 1-3 by the Los Angeles Dodgers and May 15-17 by the Philadelphia Phillies.

8-1

Arizona’s record in series directly following being swept. The D-backs took two of three from Colorado following the Pittsburgh sweep April 27-29, swept a two-game series against the Rockies after the Dodgers sweep April 28-29 and just finished a four-game sweep of the Marlins after being whitewashed by the Phillies.

5-13

The D-backs’ record on games played on Friday, Saturday or Sunday. All three sweeps suffered by Arizona have come in weekend series.

25,146

Average attendance at Chase Field through 21 home games. The D-backs rank 21st in Major League Baseball. Last season, Arizona ranked 22nd in baseball, averaging 25,601 fans per home game.

79.00

According to a formula developed by ESPN, Mark Trumbo’s performance against the Rockies on April 28 earned a rating of 79.00 — the 7th-best game for any big league position player this season. Trumbo went 4-for-4 with three runs scored, a triple, a home run and four RBI in a 12-5 win.

6

Six has been a key number for the D-backs. When they’ve scored six or more runs in a game, they’re 11-0. Conversely, they’re 5-11 when allowing opponents to score six or more runs.
