Diamondbacks muscle past Brewers, take series: By the Numbers

Paul Goldschmidt is the gift that keeps on giving.
Goldschmidt’s outstanding numbers against the Milwaukee Brewers continued to improve Saturday, as he homered in both the third and fourth innings in a 7-3 Diamondbacks win.

Pitcher Jeremy Hellickson had his third straight quality start, throwing six innings with five hits and two runs and three strikeouts. He also lent some offense, going 2-for-3 with an RBI.
Milwaukee struck first, after Ryan Lind scored Gomez off a single to left.
But Arizona answered with a three-run second frame, after the Brewers committed two throwing errors. The first error allowed Aaron Hill to score, and the second send Nick Ahmed to third. Hellickson singled to center to send Ahmed home.
Milwaukee scored again in the second, but was shut out until the ninth inning. The D-backs had another three-run inning in the fourth courtesy of Goldschmidt’s second home run of the day — a shot to dead center that scored both Hellickson and Ender Inciarte.
Randall Delgado pitched three innings of relief and gave up a run to Milwaukee in the ninth, and Elian Herrera grounded out to end it.
Arizona earned the series victory, and will go for the sweep Sunday, May 31 at 11 a.m.

Hellickson also went on a streak between the second and fourth innings during which he retired eight batters in a row.

Hellickson opened the game with eight first-pitch strikes on nine batters faced, and ended with 20 first-pitch strikes on 24 batters faced.

Goldschmidt’s multi-home-run game was his first of the season. He’s hit multiple homers six times in his career.
His three-run shot to center was his fourth three-run home run of the season and his 14th home run.
