Following Friday’s announcement that pitcher Patrick Corbin would get the start for the Arizona Diamondbacks Saturday night versus the Colorado Rockies, the D-backs made things officially official, reinstating Corbin and catcher Oscar Hernandez and optioning right-handed pitcher Matt Stites and outfielder Danny Dorn to Triple-A Reno.
The D-backs also transferred catcher Tuffy Gosewisch to the 60-day disabled list after the 31-year-old tore his ACL attempting to leg out a single to first base on May 27.
Corbin, who will make his first start since Sept. 27, 2013, missed all of last season after undergoing Tommy John surgery on his left elbow in March of 2014. Prior to his injury, Corbin earned a place on the National League All-Star team in his first full season with the D-backs, posting a 14-8 record with a 3.41 ERA.
In four rehab starts leading up to Saturday’s return to the big league mound, Corbin was a combined 1-1 with a 4.76 ERA and 11 strikeouts in appearances with Double-A Mobile and Single-A Advanced Visalia this season.
The 22-year-old Hernandez hit .211 with three doubles and three RBI in 13 rehab games with Triple-A Reno and Single-A Kane County after recovering from a broken left hamate bone suffered in early March.
